Read everyone's posts from the last few days. Glad to see other folks make lists to keep track of their lists! Rob..thanks for the link to at www.mybodycomp.com. I filled in my measurements so I can keep track. Right now I think that I'm approaching the body fat of the typical rhino but I live for improvement!

Happy days! I managed to work out in the yard both Sat and Sun (altho Saturday was, by far, a nicer day!). We have a mobile home at the shore where we plan to retire (2 years!) and spent the weekend there. Even managed to walk on Saturday.....and ....drum roll please....had a visit by the whoosh fairy. Down 2 pounds from Friday! Yippee!

    Oooo, Pongie, nice WHOOSH! Congrats!

Well back on track today, 35 minutes on Ye Olde Elliptical. My cold turned out to be seasonal allergies/sinusitis - man it sure FELT like a cold, but it improved a great deal yesterday and today I feel pretty fine, except watery eyes - colds just don't go away THAT fast! Grrrr!!

That's OK, I'll take it instead of a cold, even though it laid me out for 3 days....

Actually felt good to be back on the elliptical - go figger... AND, DH took off the panel and repositioned the batteries, so maybe it was just a little contact corrosion (we DO live at the coast after all) or maybe they had gotten a little loose - in any event it has behaved perfectly for him Friday and for me today. Knock on wood!!

Tara - It's called being in shape. Congratulations.

Maggie - Spring has sprung? Good!

Barb - 73 - WOW! Sorry about the flood

Pongie - you're welcome. Congratulations on the 2 pound loss.

Charski - I hate allergies. Never had a one until I started coming to North Carolina.

Well this is what makes me a couch fauxtato. Because on Friday I was within 6.5 miles of my 80 mile goal, I really got lax on the walking this weekend. Only 2.5 saturday and 2.0 on sunday and 0 today. so with 2 days left in march I only have 2 miles left to reach 80. I really should walk at least 6 miles in the next 2 days.

Well, back from my trip, and glad of it. No off plan eating but, consequently, not ENOUGH eating and on the trip home, definitely not enough water! Forgot to refill before leaving, but too stubborn to stop before I got home.

Tried Rob's link and discovered that, even at my current size 4, I remain a "cork" ... I married into a family of swimmers and "cork" is a reference to anyone with sufficient body fat to float easily ... a category that I've been in almost my entire human existance. I don't sink, but that doesn't mean I'm a good swimmer ... I can "rest" anytime I want, just flip over so that I'm face up and I can wait till I feel like swimming again.

So far (from what I gather according to this site) I remain a cork in spite of my lame attempts to firm up what I've got left.

Maggie...at size 4, I think I'd just decide that I was a "cork" in a fine wine and to hell with the swimmers definition! Or perhaps, you could be a cork

    LOL at Pongie! Good ones!!

I had "exercisus interruptus" today - about 12 minutes into my ellipticalling (is that a word?) DH arrived home, came roaring in to announce that THE BIRD we've been trying to identify had indeed just landed in the pine tree across the street - so I HAD to jump off and grab the binocs - now, we STILL can't identify this thing - we're thinking it's either a REALLY BIG red-tailed hawk, or possibly a golden eagle! We pored over all our books, even went to the Wild Bird Center after dinner - to no positive avail.

Anyway, after I looked at it for about 10 minutes, I DID go get back on the elliptical for another 10!

Maybe the excitement of running back and forth to the living room for the binoculars will also count today??

    Maggie - welcome back!!

Pongie, ROTF! Yeah, like fine old wine, I am!

... cute has been my curse ... (try being taken seriously when you're anything near cute); Original - ok, my mom said they "broke the mold"; Redhead - all I can say is: "Thank you Loreal.."; and I always seem to show ketones in my un-naturally dilute urine whenever I'm tested.

    Ahem, Char,

quote:
Maybe the excitement of running back and forth to the living room for the binoculars will also count today??

... but of course it does! Remember where you are!

    and, as for
quote:
"exercisus interruptus"

, all I can say is ROTFLMAO!

DITTO------ROFLMAO!!!! Char, you just CRACK me up!!!!!

OHHHHH would THAT be cool if it was a golden eagle. We have a wildlife refuge here that had a couple of golden eagles on loan from the feds. They were awesome. I don't know if they are still there, still alive or given back. I haven't been there for quite awhile. They are about the same size as a bald eagle, but redish, brownish, kinda mottled. They are gorgeous, majestic birds. They are considerably larger than Redtails. I think they have the piercing golden eyes. Unfortunately we don't see any of the large raptors around here. The largest we get are the Redtails, cruising on the thermals, ridding the plains of mice and other rodents. We do get Great Blue Herons around here though.

Well, I did drag myself to Curves today inspite of wanting to perform a little exercisus interuptus myself. I had fun though once I got there. We got on the subject of Halloween and I, naturally, had to tell everyone about our annual Halloween Party and the decorations. I lost count of how many times I went around the circuit.....I might have even gone over a half hour!!!!!

    ROTFLMBO@PONGIE.

Floating is a good thing Maggie. I cringe when I see that site state that the average male has 15% body fat. On THIS planet??
I'm at 26.5% bf. On new years day I was 29.4 so there's progress.

Charski - Have you managed to get a picture of this bird? If you could there might be ornithological Bulletin boards for hobbyists who might identify it. Is bird watching a hobby of yours?

Barb - I love blue herons. My dog is always scaring them and when they fly they are just so beautiful and graceful you have to stop and watch until they are out of sight.

It rained all day today and will do so tomorrow. But I went mall walking at a really fast clip (for my fat self) for 2.4 miles (6 laps). Will try and do the same tomorrow. But even if I fauxtato out I;ve still reached my goal.

Hi All.... great thread going here! I loved Pongie's cork definition! And I have to agree with all who tried the Body Comp site, sheeeesh! I have known all my life I have a very boyish figure, no hips but also no waist - throughout my teens and 20s boy's jeans fit better... According to these folks I need to add significant inches to my hips - how is THAT done?!

Also, this site tells me that my body fat is at 32.19% when every other chart I've seen has me at about 24%... According to them (and given that I have very tiny wrists and ankles) I should weigh about 115 pounds (I am 5'5"). I suppose it would be fun to see what I'd look like if I was anorexic for like, curiosity's sake but good grief, if I weighed 115 pounds my friends and family would be all over me to get counseling for my eating disorder!

I walked 3.11 miles yesterday! about 50 minutes on the treadmill (about 5 of those minutes was cool-down, I'm walking at between 3.8 and 4.2 miles per hour). I don't have as much time today, but will get in at least 30 minutes. I have built myself a little spreadsheet to keep track of minutes/miles and minutes rowing.

Rob, congratulations on reaching your mileage goal this month... I like the idea of setting a goal for miles walked and may try to do that in April - hell, I'll sure need to increase my miles if I expect to reach 115 anytime soon
    Hugs, Rachel

last day of this month, and I have failed miserably.
getting to Curves on a regular basis, but can't seem to restart doing anything else.
Work and d**n computers are driving me nuts - It is now 4:20 am and I am in trying to do some work that is keeping me awake anyhow.

so - need to force myself to get back to the walking tapes (even when the weather is better and I can do it outside). I just HAVE TO!!

I'm checking in just to grump. How the hell do you gain 3 pounds in a single day...don't know myself but on and off the scale a dozen times and there it is. Guess the whoosh fairy decided she visited the wrong house and crept back in last night. Not happy.

Drinking water this a.m. and plan to keep doing so until the weight goes away. Have decided it must be water weight. Sheesh.

Now..ranting behind me. I live near the Chesapeake Bay and the house in DE is on Indian River Bay - both with Great blue herons which are glorious birds.

And Char..."exercisus interruptus" is what happened to me last night when the Pilates DVD lady explained how to do one Pilates move and I rolled myself right over to the remote and said not in my lifetime! I don't think that at my weight I can bend that way. But I'll try again tonight.

So...hats off to all. I'm taking my red hat and purple dressed ole lady self off the *puter and heading for work. Happy Hump Day.

Rob, no pic yet - you know how it goes, when you spot it, you run in for the camera and by then it's taken off!

We want to buy some digital binoculars with the built-in camera - are researching it now.

Bird-watching has become a hobby for DH and me because we have SO many varieties around our place, and it's fun to ID them. We have half a dozen bird books and a bird call CD; then last night at the Wild Bird Center we bought a 3-CD set that ONLY has CA bird calls on it. Very cool!

This big ol' bird had caught himself some dinner and was sitting in the top of a very tall pine tree in the canyon across the street enjoying his meal. A second bird just like the first flew in to see if he might get to share, but uh unh, no way dude, get your OWN from the first guy! Since he sat there so long eating we got a really good look at him, but he does NOT match any of the pictures we have in any of our books, nor could the woman who owns the WBC find any that matched. However, his call sounds JUST like the Golden Eagle.

Hopefully we'll get a chance to get a pic of him once we get those new binocs! It's so much fun! This guy arrived on the scene about a week and a half ago, first hint was this call we'd not heard before, and we're used to the redtails and red-shouldered hawks around here - my DH also hears him up the canyon further when he hikes at lunchtime, so it seems he travels pretty well up and down the canyon and into the surrounding mountainsides to hunt. I hope he sticks around, AND his brother or mate or whomever it was that tried to horn in on his meal!

Char, perhaps it's a juvenile Bald or Golden. Juvenile Balds LOOK like Goldens until their full regalia of black and white feathers come in. I think they are juvies until they are about 3 yrs old. Just a thought.
