Wow guys..what an inspiration. I don't know how many calories I burned but I took 2 16 year olds ice skating. And I put on skates and I got on the ice...and skated, sorta. At least I managed to make my way around the rink 8 or 10 times. I managed about 20 minutes total outta the hour we were there and my hips and thighs are burning! What a sorry sight I was but gee it was fun. So...that's it for today. Tonight it's a hot shower and bengay!

As for food...I had one pancake with spray butter while making breakfast for the kids and a cobb salad for lunch with lowfat, low carb dressing, followed by a slice of ham (well trimmed) and a salad for dinner. Except for breakfast, I zoned well and even then, I had some cottage cheese for protein so it was more blocks than normal but all in all, not bad.

AND, I'm claiming the half pound this morning since it gets me to 6 pounds lost. (I forgot to change the signature line before I started this but its 190.5/184.5/130). Gotta go crawl to the couch.

Happy Loser in 2004!

I did get in some activity 6 days out of 7 this week, although Friday I couldn't get up early but did my 20 mins. on the stationary bike in the evening. Did 30minutes yesterday and 50+ minutes this morning. The cold I've had for the past two weeks seems to finally be on its last legs, so I hope to do better/work harder next week. Still...20 minutes at resistance setting 2 is better than 20 minutes on the couch!

Hope everyone has a great week --

Yay! I found some time for the gym!
Went after I got done at work this am, had a good hour and a half, 20 minutes on the elliptical, and the rest of the time was spent weight training. Planning to hit the gym again Tues and Wed, but then going out of town till next Monday, so it'll be hit and miss. THEN I'll be on days again, so if I want to hit the gym on a workday it'll have to be 6am Yikes.
Dogs are disappointed, it was decent outside when I first got home...Now it's a miserable, windy, rainy day. Ugg. Looks like a good day to catch up on a little zzzz. See ya later taters!

Good work, fellow taters!

I did well, today. First, some dancing.

That went ok (yeah, I can still shimmy, LOL!), but I was concentrating on getting many particular moves right, and that means doing them "small" so I didn't really get a workout from it, even though I did a little free-form dancing toward the end.

So I took my marches and made a 27 minute playlist for my ipod out of several of them. Starting, of course, with the previously mentioned Liberty Bell march. I don't know, it just seems to set the proper absurd tone for a lone woman marching along on a machine with an audience of 4 creatures on the bed shaking their heads in dis-belief. Ya know?

Then, I put in several Sousa pieces which worked out to be of various tempos, so that I was going back and forth between 3.2 and 3.7 mph, depending on the piece.

Finally (and this turned out to be an inspired idea) I put the march from the Bridge Over the River Kwai in as the last piece. It was just the thing. It has a more stately tempo, so it served as sort of a cool-down. But best of all, by that point, near the very end of my stationary journey, I was not paying much attention to posture or form. That little ditty put some starch in my spine (and my upper lip, of course). I just pretended that I was Alec Guiness coming out of "the box" and marching past his fellow pow's, with all the emotions that go into that scene. Sweaty and out of breath, I nevertheless concluded with great dignity.

Now, I have to get to the store. I'm almost out of eggs and cream! That's no way to start a week!

I thought this challenge ended in February. However, I am in again. I have slacked off on the exercise bad. I am going to set a goal of walking 50 miles total for the month and doing 20 hours of weight training.

Good luck all!!

WTG, Seesko!

The February challenge ended in February. New month, new challenge. Some of us (like, me, for instance) need to keep trying until we get it right ...

Did core program three times so far this month. Without you guys to tell about it, I probably wouldn't have. Walked 14 miles so far in March.

Go, taters!

Awright, feller taters - I actually talked myself into getting on the elliptical butt-kicker when I got home, in SPITE of the fact that it was 81* in my office most of the day (no air conditioning here at the coast, dontcha know) and I was surly, cranky and tired (kinda like Curly, Mo and Larry) when I got home. BUT I said, OK, self, 10 minutes, that's all you gotta do! So I put on my bike shorts and my tank top with the GIANT underarm holes that let plenty of breeze through to cool "stuff" off - and got on that bad boy. It didn't hurt that Tom Cruise was on Oprah.

Well howdy, I went right on by the 10 minute mark to a new record of 26 minutes, huffing and puffing and yes, dare I say it - SWEATING - ew, I HATE sweating! - but I did it!

Mostly because I wanted to brag when I checked in....

I need to push myself on the good days. This weather is freaky. 75 degrees on saturday and today it's supposed to snow. It's like putting all the days of a year in a grab bag and each day you pull one day out. Today is may tomorrow is december. Sorry to Biche. I didn't walk yesterday but I did walk saturday and sunday. I have 20.75 miles in so far for March. But I can't slack off or I won't make my goal of 80 miles.

Geez I just HATE to follow Rob with my little pronouncements! I walked my mile yesterday in the wind and the cold - that makes five miles and an ice skating session for March. I'm aiming for 20 miles which after reading buddy Rob's projections, sounds dismal! Rob - can you tell I'm in awe???

Happy Tuesday taters. We're having the same weather here in Southern Maryland that Rob describes ... beautiful on Saturday, snow flurries on Monday. Guess I'll dress warm for today's hike.

I gotta ditto the same weather garbage here in Illinois too. Although we haven't had ANY 75 degree weather YET!!! But as they say in Chicago, "if you're tired of the weather, wait 10 mins." I keep looking on the bright side and telling myself it's March, 1/2 Winter 1/2 Spring, I just wish the Spring half would get here and stay. I'm really hankerin' to ride my bike. I wish I could find one of those big dorky baskets to put on my bike so I can at least ride to Walgreens a block and a half away to buy milk (for kefir making of course.) and such.

Pongie
It's not the distance you walk that's important. It's challenging yourself to get up and move. I've been walking for a whole lot of years and my monthly mileage has been anywhere from 10 (or less) to over 100. It's always best to build up to it slowly.
