Tara - I have little motivation to spare the past few days.

Barb - If you lift each box over your head three times before putting it on the shelf, you'll get a really good workout. LOL

Maggie - Yes what Barb describes is basically a crunch. You lay on the floor (or mat) with knees bent and feet flat on floor. And just raise your upper body maybe 6 inches. If the knee bending is a problem you could try it with just the good knee bent and if that's uncomfortable just put both legs flat on the floor. But I might wait a few days just to avoid any risk of injuring your already bad knee.

Charski - Rofl @ chicken droppings. Morels taste like morels. There's nothing else quite like them.

Susan - we all seem to be in the same boat this week regarding exercise. And cats! I punted my cat about 5 feet the other day. Not on purpose.

If I keep up with my exercise the rest of the month as well as I have the past few days I won't come close to making goal. 2 miles in 3 days. and today is rainy (AGAIN!) and tomorrow is supposed to be the same until late afternoon. And when the weather clears enough to walk all my regular walking places will be ankle deep mud. I need to mall walk, sad but true. :(

Welcome, Albertine!

You'll find plenty of support here for getting into some kind of activity.

Well TN (THE knee) was very bad yesterday. I was able to take half the day off, so I came home, loaded up on ibuprofen and went to bed. Probably the best thing I could have done, since this morning it's much better. (Just sore, no more icepicks behind the patella at the slightest provokation.) I will try some crunches later and report the results.

Still waiting for my isometrics book. When I ordered it a couple of weeks ago, it was supposed to be pubished in a couple of days. Still not published. ... oh well.

Albertine - Get off that couch now! Well not Now, It's 6:30 a.m. But a little later.

Maggie - good idea taking some time off work to rest TN. Until you get your book maybe you could google up some isometric websites.

I mall walked yesterday since it was pouring when I wanted to walk. Did 3.25 miles at a good fast clip. Then after an evening of searching through bookstores for a certain book (and not finding it) I passed by a park and since my dog was with me did an additional 3/4 mile. Which brings yesterday's mileage to 4 even. So I am not doing so badly all of a sudden. 32.75 for the month makes my 70 mile goal feel reachable. The weather began to clear yesterday afternoon and steam was rising on everything. The sun came out and within an hour teh temp went from the high forties to mid 60s. It is, however, pouring rain once again. But is supposed to end. I have an afternoon appointment to have my cholesterol checked.

Well, I managed my mile yesterday, despite the torrential downpours. Walked the gym at the church for 20 minutes which should be close. Just a quick check in this a.m. Computer's acting strange so I think I'll post and run. Happy humpday taters.

I got off work late yesterday, so talked myself right out of the elliptical again, BUT I did do my isometrics this morning! Something is better than nothing, right?!

Maggie, hope that knee continues to improve...ibuprofen is the best weapon against SO many problems! That and aspirin are two items I make sure we ALWAYS have on hand.

Gotta run to work, see you Taters laters!

OK, reports from the gimp:

These crunches, how long are you supposed to hold them? Are you just supposed to do a lot of repetitions, or what. I didn't know, so I treated them as if they were isometrics, holding them until I felt a burn. I kept breathing, using shallow chest breathing, so as not to use the muscles for breath purposes.

Got about 10 done, but I didn't do it with my feet on the floor and my knees bent - not good on TN. I put the distal end of my legs on the sofa, with my butt on the floor right up against the bottom of the sofa ... something like I tried once with the GD ball - but I didn't roll off this way.

As for isometrics on the web, well, I found 50 sites with the same definition and a picture of a woman doing a one handed curl with an 8 lb hand weight. Then I found several places trying to sell me books or a membership in a health club.

But one of the first things I found was a site teaching isometrics for baby sheep !.... I kid you not, it's a 4H club site telling you how to get your lamb to do isometrics so it has good muscles when you show it. It kept saying that it was just like for humans, but I found it less than helpful, since I'm not dead sure where my brisket is.

Lest you think that this is a figment of my warped sense of humor, see for yourself: http://lambinators.homestead.com/isometrics.html

Ya can't make this s*** up! LOL!

Okay...I bit, I believed that there really is a site with isometrics for sheep. I went there and got, "Sorry, the page you requested does not exist or has been moved. Please check to make sure that the URL you entered is correct"

But ya know, I really do believe that some one would teach sheep exercises. Color me gullable but Maggie wouldn't lie to me. Guess that's why I watch those late night commercials. Oh me.

ROFL @ Maggie's missing Brisket.

With billions of websites to choose from there is no subject that you can't find.

Pongie - Good for you! With the weather on the east coast so horrible the past few days, (weeks for some), you did well to go out of your way to move.

Charski - Yep, that's the point of this challenge, some movement is better tahn none!

Albertine - I kinda figured it was later where you were. LOL

Maggie - the crunches I do you can choose to do them quickly or hold them. I think holding them would be better but I'm not sure. Your legs on the couch sounds like a modified crunch I've tried. The bottom line is - are your stomach muscles sore? I find that when I begin ab exercise my belly is really sore.

Finally the Rain has ended after 5 cold miserable damp days. I went mall walking yesterday and let's hope that's the last time i have to do that for a long while! Did 2.5 miles. So my total so far this month is 35.25. My cholesterol test came back at 225 tc and tc-hdl at exactly 5. So okay but some room for improvement.

Well, Taters, I whooshed, but not quite in the way I wanted to. Back to sig weight via the back door, you could say. Got a nasty G.I. bug that lasted for 3 1/2 days...at work we refer to it (crudely) as 'liquid a**'. I am to the point now where I can walk upright upstairs, rather than crawl, and the thought of food now kinda sorta makes me hungry, rather than nauseates me. Finally the weather here is breaking and it's beautiful outside...and I slept till 3pm! Well, maybe I can get some real food into me and have enough energy to take the pups for a walk tomorrow. Off to make some dinner. Steak and green beans for my first meal back amongst the living. Later taters!

Sorry Tara. That truly stinks! LOL

Finally a beautiful 70 degree spring day. I walked 4 miles at Tanglewood Park and it was the best walk so far this year. Unfortunately my Nephew, Mike, called me at 12:30 with a question. "Uncle Bobby (yes childhood family names never die) how do you do taxes?" He tehn stated that he hadn't gotten all teh forms and he had to be at work by 3:00. So being a good uncle (spelled sucker) I agreed to do his federal and state taxes and mail them. So barely had time to walk and get to Mike's apt. and pick up his w-2 and of course I drove him to work. So I headed tot he library where I knew they had all the necessary forms. How many calories does doing taxes burn?

Oh, Tara! Sorry about your bout! I hope you feel better very soon.

I'm looking forward to some "not cold and windy" weather this weekend. so they say, anyway. We'll see.

I don't know about calories, Rob, but it's usually sure to give me a slow "burn" just thinking about it.
