| I am determined to continue doing this until I meet one of my own blankety challenges! Welcome, fellow couch fauxtatoes, to the "Couch Fauxtato June Activity Challenge." Not usually into challenges? Don't want to tie yourself to a particular weight or size result? Intimidated by more traditional Exercise Forums? Do you, perhaps, have a treadmill that has clothes hanging on it? ... hmmm? But are you, perhaps, willing to contemplate a modest expenditure of activity with a short term commitment? Then this is the place for you! You decide what your challenge is, since you know yourself best. It could be taking the stairs at work, so many times per week, or if you're in the right climate, going for a walk at lunch time. No challenge is too small or too odd! You define your own challenge and then we'll check in every so often and compare notes. Now that the weather in Hooterville - and other parts of the country - has become a climate more favorable for humans, Define your own challenge! Try it for a month. *****LISTEN, FELLOW SLUGS AND SLOTHS, THIS IS IMPORTANT. A TRUE COUCH FAUXTATO CANNOT JUST LAUNCH HIM OR HERSELF OFF THE COUCH AND INTO AN INTENSIVE EXERCISE PROGRAM! Now, I realize that, for most of us, there's little chance of that. We are often also great procrastinators and most of us will take our sweet time dusting off tapes and/or looking for long burried exercise equipment, and will be adjusting our activity to whatever feels ok, especially to begin with. However, GET CLEARED, MEDICALLY, FOR WHATEVER CHALLENGE YOU ARE PLANNING FOR YOURSELF! Then proceed in a rational manner. Work into it slowly!*****

| (OK, so it's a few hours early, but we start "summer hours" tomorrow and I'm going to at least make an effort to get in by eight. So I don't want to leave this for the morning. During the month of May, my most consistent challenge consisted of moving 13 planters off my deck (all planted pre-maturely due to what seemed to be an early summer) and into my bedroom - and back out again when danger passed. With every tornado or "severe thunderstorm with 50 mile per hour winds and golf ball sized hail" warning that came when I was at home, in came the tender plant-babies. Then hopscotch 'round the boudoir 'till the threat passed. Then back out to the great outdoors. Interestingly, it never occurred to me that if, indeed, a tornado DID hit my house, my petunias and tomatoes would be the least of my worries. Nevertheless, I persisted. On the 28th and 29th, I found myself doing this "activity" each night due to frost warnings. ![]() May also brought a new approach in my own activity challenge. Rather than try to dedicate some specific amount of time, so many times per week, I'm trying to integrate mini-workouts into my every day activities. Between tasks at work, I'm trying to do one or two exercises, each targeted at strengthening different muscle groups, with two reps of ten for each exercise, while trying to avoid injuring any of my existing problems. Current Motto: "It's better than nuthin."

| I'm going to stick with the Curves workout 3x week, and try to get on the bicycle at least 3x week. and hope to get past my 2m ride sometime during the month. Spent today getting 2 bedrooms rearranged, cleaned out. And yes, I did set up a walker and ab-roller in one of them. also going to clean up my mini-tramp. Now, using them will be another thing.

| I haven't done so well on previous faux-tato challenges, but this COULD be the one! I have tried to use my home gym at least 5x a week- ok, I have only done it for 1 week so far, but I have Great intentions! I will challenge myself to use it every other day, and ditto with the exercise bike. I will try to keep squeezing in leg-lift type exercise whenever I have to stand in one place for at least 2 minutes (loading the washing machine, washing dinner dishes, you know - boring stuff) I would add swimming to the list, but........................ Dh has dis-assembled our above-ground pool and is replacing the liner and moving the filter and pump to the other side. *sigh* I may never get to swim again. He is long term off work (injured last Oct- can't go back til Sept. or Oct) and is manufacturing projects to keep himself busy! Currently I can look out into the backyard and see the lonely deck, with the pool siding rolled up and sitting where the water used to be. It seems dh and ds bent the track that the siding sets in, and now they need to fix that. * sigh* I am really gonna miss that pool. Here's to great loss in the month of June! |

| Good plans so far! everyone. This month I'm sticking with my plan to do the aerobics with weights videotape 3 times a week. and walk for the other 4 days (as far as I feel like-no set amount). I also want to start the ab roller workout 5 or 6 times a week. But already Ive got excuses for not doing this and it isn't even June yet. But since I'm living in someone elses house until saturday, it just may not be convenient to start until I get back home. But Jackie has an aerodyne exercise bicycle, so maybe I'll do a few miles a day while I'm here. And I will be tackling that 200 foot long, 45 degree, hill twice a day during my walks with the two dogs. I just hope I survive doing low carb in a house that doesn't have olive oil but has Karo syrup. That peanut butter looks really good next to those biscuits. |

| OK, I am going to join this month. I will go 3 miles per day either on my bike or walking, and curves at least 3x per week. That is my exercise goal. I just love reading all of your posts, you all inspire me. Dani

| Welcome, Dani. This is the most "forgiving" challenge there is. LOL! Feel free to adjust your challenge as you find your life dictates. The point is to keep challenging yourself, not necessarily to meet the first challenge you set. (check previous challenge months to confirm this. LOL!) Glad to have you here!

| OK, I'll admit it - MAY SUCKED for activity! My cat has had me worried all month. She has ceased eating and drinking for the most part since yesterday morning. These things ALWAYS happen on a long weekend... No effort has been spared, I now have 3 different flavors of baby food opened in the fridge along with 2 cans of cat food, clam juice, and a can of tuna - all pretty much spurned. I fear we are AT THAT POINT. SO - I resolve that once this horrid spot is past, I will again commence ACTIVITY on my elliptical, which I actually DO like. I will also again commence my isometric exercises (Maggie, did you ever get that book, do you like it, and are you doing exercises from it?) at least every other day. THERE! It's on "cyber paper" so I must make it so..... Char

| Oh, Char. I'm so sorry for you and your kitty! I know how hard this is, having delt with Brutus the First's osteosarcoma. I had to concede to the time when I was no longer able to keep him comfortable. One of the most difficult situations I've had to live through. {{{hugs}}} ... and, no, I never got the much-touted isometric book. It was supposed to be published a LONG time ago, but still not available. In the computer world, we referred to such things as "vapor-ware."

| Awwww, Char. :( Toto is so lucky to have people who will do right by her and not allow her to suffer. I'm very sorry you have to go through this. I have also had a less-than-stellar May as far as activity. I am back on nights starting next Monday, so I will be going to the gym a minimum of 3x per week, shooting for 5x per week. I have really felt like crap the last few weeks after not being able to make it to the gym. I really miss my workouts! Also, aiming to get the poor, neglected doggies out more (everything gets neglected when I'm on daylights). Along with that I'm going to make an effort to keep up with the yard and house work and not waste so much time when I'm home. Glad to see some new spuds on our bandwagon! Welcome! (and welcome back to the old spuds!) Later, taters...

| Oh yes, and I need to add to my challenge: I am eating clean for the month of June. I have been SO lazy with my eating. I have been falling off, due to missing my workouts and eating off-plan stuff, drinking beer, causing me to crave more off-plan stuff, causing me to feel like a hibernating slug... I will allow myself LC bread or tortillas 2x per week and one cup of coffee per day. Otherwise, no frankenfoods or processed foods.

| Welcome, Cynthia, Macias and Slatelee! This is a great group of people in this challenge! Very supportive. Char, sorry about your kitty. I'm sure that's very difficult for you. Rob, sounds like the exercise bike will be good... something different, anyway. Good luck staying away from all that HC food.... just remember, it's only a week. You can do it! Tara, glad to hear things will be easier for you now that you're back on nights. Well, as for me, I'm going to take Maggie's suggestion and not expect too much of myself the first 2 weeks of June, since I started Induction today. Do plan on making my trips up to the 3FB (3rd floor bathroom) on the days I'm at work. If I'm up for it, will try to get some walks in. Hopefully I won't suffer too much w/Induction and will be able to go for walks 3-5 times a week. I'm cutting the caffeine this time around :(, so maybe afternoon walks will help with my energy level. As for the last 2 weeks of June, hope to do walks and my stairmaster. Haven't worked out a plan yet, though. Will do that as it gets closer. Let's all have a happy, active June!
