Charski - Better than Nuttin is this challenges middle name! Tara - What a great experience! I really intended to take a day off my walking yesterday. We're in the middle of a heat wave like I've never seen. The low temps have been in the 70's. Highs in the 90's for at least the past week to 10 days. So walking after about 9:00 a.m. is not fun. But that's what I've been doing because I just don't have the energy to get up and out (read that as need a full pot of coffee to function). I may take today off, I want to take today off, but I may compulsively walk anyway. That's what I did yesterday, despite being sore from the 7 mile walk Friday. Did 4 miles at Tanglewood. Did I mention that I lost 2 pounds this week. Big deal you say. considering that this 2 pound loss makes a grand total of 4.5 pounds lost in 3 months, it is a very big deal.

| I'm back. Well, actually I've been back since about 12:05 AM Saturday. The saga is here. Friday I did enough walking, stairs, sitting in a less than optimal position and keeping my blance while riding a ferry, to make my left knee feel as though it was totally blown out. .... I got bettah ... ![]() Last night I went catfishing - the only activity part of which is getting to the fishing spot and back. ... oh, yeah, and swatting at the insect life attracted by the lantern used to put on bait and/or adjust tackle, etc. ... should'a went with the fire idea. LOL! Had a great time anyway. Today I'll be doing some reading and will do some sort of exercise at the close of each chapter. Hopefully something more than going to refill my iced tea glass.

| MAggie - Loved your description of the trip. The bus trip alone would have had me mumbling. I opted out of the weekly bbq at my sister's house today. I was jsut not gonna lose weight while eating my weight in grilled meat. So instead I packed a picnic lunch and headed for the mountains where it's 10 degrees cooler. Decided to walk the Hanging Rock trail to the top of a 500 foot tall peak. it was 2.5 miles round trip but so steep it took over an hour. Came down exhausted and ready for bed but after drinking a ton of water I felt renewed. So on to a second hiking trail to another peak this was 3 miles round trip but not as high as the first. That first trail had me rock climbing at some points. I was lucky that another hiker gave me a half liter of bottled water halfway up the second peak. So I finally get up and back down and what do I decide to do? I see a sign for a nature trail that's only half a miel long. So that made it an even 6 miles of hiking. According to fitday I expended an additional 1147 calories over being a tater. Of course I felt i deserved a treat and ate a full pint of low carb ice cream.

| Wow, Rob...sounds like fun! We won our softball game today. I had a good game, hit and fielded well. Short but sweet, working a 24 today, so I have to get to the other station. Bye!

| Rob, sew that big "S" back on your chest! ... and Tara, you're going to either be dead or an iron woman on call for 24 hrs! At least you have those magic moments like the birth of a baby. There are some positives associated with the tough work you do. Char, seconds DO count! and you're absolutely correct: anything's better 'n nuthin. LOL! Hula hoops, huh Barb? That sounds cool. I used to be pretty adept, in my day. I could get one down to my knees and back up to the waist again. Like back in the days when Art Linkletter helped make them a "craze". (Feeling aged just saying these words. NO ONE should be old enough to remember Art Linkletter. )Maybe I can get my butt over to W'mart and see if I can pick one up. Is it like riding a bike? Do you "remember" how, or do you have to "re-learn"?

| OK, so are we gonna start a Hula Hoop Club?! Maggie, are you still belly-dancing at all?? Or is it too hard on the knee? WOW Rob, that's a LOT of tough hiking! Great job!! Tara congrats on winning your game. Barb, are you gonna challenge Maggie to see who can get the hoop down the lowest and back up again?! LOL! Well I was anything BUT a Tater today - first off, trotted to Mom's cottage and retrieved her whole turkey breast, back home to install it in the Showtime Rotisserie. While that was doing its thang, started 2 loads of laundry, which involves going to the back of Mom's cottage where the laundry room is located (we share!) - so numerous trips out there. Then drove downtown to meet DH for lunch again and walked to the conference center, although not as far today because there are no meter maids on Sundays so you can park in any of the zones for free! After THAT, came home and went out to the "South Forty" to water the veggies, usually DH does that but being at a conference....well, let's just say according to HIM, I'm the "best wife in the whole wide world!" Tee hee! THEN I vacuumed the whole house (2600 sq. ft., not huge but hey, it's a lot of floor space!) and dusted to the strains of the Fabulous Thunderbirds which of course required an occasional stoppage of WORK to just DANCE IT OUT. And for my grand finale, I actually got out the box with my new Swiffer automatic mop in it (which was purchased about 6 weeks ago), READ the instructions and put it to good use in the kitchen and 3 bathrooms - hey, those things work great!! Oh yeah, not to mention putting MY turkey breast (well you know, I don't PERSONALLY have turkey breasts, but the one I bought at the store) on the rotisserie, then standing in the kitchen making the Loaded Fauxtaters casserole and cleaning a pound of green beans, which I then oven-roasted.... As you can see I've been a BUSY TATER and right now I'm feeling about half-baked, so will go relax. If I can. I hope I don't lose TATER STATUS with all that activity! Char

| LOL @ Char's turkey breast! The belly dancing has become a kind of occasional thing, these days. ... and yes, the knee is a problem. Every now and then, the urge comes upon me and I crank up the music. ![]() However, I can't do it often enough to count on as a regular activity. Fear not, Cindy, we are true taters at heart. Today, I took the day off and didn't do d*** other than read, play fetch with Brutus (he does all the activity for that, including getting the fetch toy placed properly in my hand - since I'm not looking, I'm reading. LOL! I do have to say "good boy" when he brings his knotted rope thing back. ) and pet the cats.

| Tara - Congratulations on winning! 24? do you get to sleep? Maggie - I remember Art Linkletter. depressing. Charski - 2600 square feet is a ot of vacuuming. I split my little 900 sq ft condo into 2 separate vacuum days. I bought one of those battery powered swiffers too. They work great. Cynthia - yes we are taters at heart. The pool is enough. I was planning on taking the day off from walking but I find that if I go every day it gets easier and easier. skipping just seems to make the effort seem harder. But the day got away from me and before I looked up it was 3:00. So too late to walk outdoors. So i left sophie home and headed to the mall. Did 3 fast miles. Then feeling guilty this evening I took sophie for a walk at the smallish park 1/2 mile from me. but i don't think we did 1/3 of a mile. It was all for sophie so i let her sniff to her hearts content.

| Sophie is a lucky dog, Rob, and you are right about the habit aspect of activity. Taking a day off can often result in taking two days off for me. ![]() Then it becomes a separate challenge to "re-start."

| It is soooo d*** HOT here!! Hittin in the 100's! Yuck! Came home and jumped in the pool again. The water temp is a VERY comfortable 80 degrees, YAY!Got my pool exercise in, don't think I will get to anything else, as it is pretty warm indoors as well (dh is, umm, frugal!, so we do not run the cooler!) It is not usually too bad indoors, with the afternoon breeze, but I do NOT feel like doing anything that will cause my body temp to rise! *grin* Maggie, love the new pic! Vacuum? Didn't I ask one of the kids to do that? Oh well! |
