i am so lucky to find this site...i am 5.2 and weight is 153lbs(i think i am overweight ...according to height weight chart i should be 125-130).i had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy (1 year ago) .my doctor warned me to be careful as i have diabetes trend on both paternal and maternal side of family .
on last visit for annual checkup the doctor said my fasting BG is125..then he did H1Abc which is 6.1...he said i am on my road to the "DIABETIC STATION" unless i take drastic action and loose weight and control diet and bring fasting BG to atleast 110( he said if i bring this to 100 he would be super duper thrilled)...i am given 3 months time ...otherwise he plans to put me on medicines

i dont want that...i am joining a gym in my neighbourhood in weekend...please help...thanx in advance

Hi There! Welcome to LCE
My first advice to you would be to do a little research and pick a food plan that interests you and that you can live with...as in, it becomes your lifestyle WOE(way of eating). Take the time to do that, it will pay off in the long run. Next, after you pick your plan, BUY AND READ the book...most important! You will use it many times as a reference, and will feel secure knowing it's there to help you along your journey.
Next, pick a date to start, get all the food stuff you will need, rid your house of foods that are not a part of your plan. You already have decided to exercise...that's a great first step...congrats! Next, put both of them together...following your food plan, exercising, and add in drinking plenty of water, and you will be on your way to a healthier you. This may all seem overwhelming at first, but if you need to, take it a meal at a time, a day at a time. IMO, it's more important to get the food plan down and get that underway, then add in that exercise within a week or so. Sometimes to much going on at once will distract you...just my opinion.

I wish you good luck; post often and let us know how it's going for you.
You may get alot of advice and helpful ideas here, but it is up to you to set it all in motion! You CAN do it!

Welcome! You sound very motivated and interested, so I want to congratulate you on taking these steps to manage your health. I believe a high protein, low carbohydrate diet in combination with your new exercise program, will do a lot to keep you off medications and the potential effects of diabetes. Low carb eating plans include lots of really tasty foods, so you can still enjoy a delicious and varied menu of healthy meals, snacks, and even some treats.

Both Dr. Atkins' book on diabetes and the Schwartzbein Principal have been recommended by LCE readers. The link above goes to a an earlier topic that discusses these books.

I do not think a few points difference in your readings is that significant, as most home blood glucose meters are not that precise. Still, you would do well to run that question by your own diabetes care specialist.

FWIW, most blood glucose meters are only accurate within about 15%. So a few points are well within the margin of error for hand held glucometers. If you want to know more about glucometer meter accuracy and precision, you may find these articles to be useful:

Hip,
We are NOT a medical community, and do not dispense medical advice in these forums.
If you are uncertain about your blood glucose monitoring equipment, you should contact your pharmacy, physician, or a diabetes education instructor for help and information.

Welcome, Hippo.

Teel is right. Small variations are rarely indicative of anything. You should check with your treating physician to confirm this.

Shelley is also right. We can't deal here with specifically medical issues. If you need some support in this way of eating, or if you need tips and hints, regarding how various people have adapted to this way of eating, what foods we've found to be BGL friendly or unfriendly - then, we're here for you! But there's no one here qualified to be a diabetes "coach."

For that reason, I'm going to close this thread, since it may become to close to medical advice. We aren't offering that.

I hope you'll start another thread, so that we can all be of assistance - in a way we're equipped to do.

BTW, I want to encourage you to continue your exploration of low carb programs. I have held diabetes in abeyance for over six years now, so it can be done, in partnership with your health care provider.
