| I am new and I have a few questions. I have type 2 diabetes and my Doctor told me to go on Atkins to get my blood sugar readings down. How long did it take some of you to get your A1c down and what is the best reading for that, or best range? I have a problem with knowing what a good BS reading is 2 hours after eating and a good fasting reading? Are most of you on induction all the time, or do you eat any fruit at all after induction? I weigh 184 and goal is 140 I am from Kansas, married and a Grandmother, have 1 Bichon Frise dog named Sammy who's my walking partner. Thanks for response, Shirle |

| We have lots of people here who are quite experienced with diabetes, blood glucose readings, etc. But I'm not one of them. I was on induction for two weeks and was glad to move past it. Some people are more comfortable with fruit than others. I limit myself to 1/2 C of berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) one to three times a week. I'm in the early stages of losing and it's coming off VERY slow, so I may be a little more cautious than some folks.

| Welcome, Shirle. 5 years ago I was classified pre-diabetic. Under today's guidelines, I would have been diagnosed as type2D. My A1c's were back within normal range after a couple of months of Atkins and have remained there since. I do eat fruit. Certain fruits and in limited amounts, but almost every day. Are you on insulin or any of the oral hypoglycemics?

| Hi Shirle, just stopping by to say welcome to LCE! I wish you the best with your new Atkins plan. I know it will help you a lot. There are some folks on the forum who will be able to give you some great advice on this. Hope to see you around often. |

| I want to thank you all for helping me. I went off the plan, but as today I am starting over. I am not doing induction, but staying as low carb as I can, no bread or potatoes or pasta. I can eat some low carb bread in small amount without hurting it seems, like one slice, once in a while. It is really hard for me to lose it seems. I don't gain, but not losing, so was wondering if cutting calories would help? Shirle |

| Nice to see you back. Some people find they do better counting calories as well as carbs. I think that if you don't have a good satiety feedback (a timely signal that you're not hungry any more) then portion control using the Atkins "satisfied but not stuffed" rule of thumb might not work well. For me, it works, but many folks have to use other means of watching portions. How long were you on plan and not losing?
