Default need help with a question

Altho I do have low sugar, I am not familiar with what to do about sugar going to high. I have a friend that has diabeties, and she told me her sugar went to over 300 yesterday, and her mom gave her 3 of those glucose tablets. I question this. Is that what you do for someone who's sugar goes that high???? It don't sound right to me. Is that doing more harm? I'd sure appreciate some info on this. Like I said, I have hypoglycemia and I know what to do about it, but I am at a loss with the question i just asked. I am afraid her mom may be doing her more harm then good.

The best possible answer for this question, since none of us here are doctors, is to seek professional medical advice.

April is right. Your friend should talk to her doctor. The sooner, the better.

Glucose tablets are used, especially in the Bernstein approach (which is, IMHO, one of the best approaches to tight control of blood sugars in diabetics), when one is having an insulin reaction.

Your friend needs to take control of her own diabetes and that means educating herself and working closely with her md.

That was the wrong thing to do. 4 tablets are 15 grams of carbs and will raise your blood sugar 50 points. To bring your sugar down you need insulin. The glucose tablets are to treat a low blood sugar. If your friend has not been dx'd by a DR as a diabetic, then they need to get to one. With high blood sugars as a norm, it is possible for them to go into diabetic DKA and could slip into coma and if untreated could DIE. Your friends mother is doing more harm than good. They need to get educated, before something happens.

Good luck
