Default Fiber

I was wondering if anyone has experimented with eating alot of fiber
to see how that affects your BG levels. I ate a cup of fiber one that
is 50 grams of carbs and 28 grams of fiber and 2 hrs later my BG was a
surprising 87.

Great. What was your reading before you ate?

Fiber is a great thing for a lot of reasons. I find it is usually pretty neutral with respect to my BGL's, depending on what I ingest with it. In general, I think lots of fiber, which keeps everything moving - so to speak - has an overall good effect on my general well being.

If I find certain foods that give me good levels, I add them to my personal "ok" list. Of course, for me, I like to test at one-half hour and one, two and three hours the first time I test a new food. This way I'm sure that I haven't gotten into something that gives me a quick spike (making my two hour reading just a reading midway through a crash) or a slow onset, where the readings continue to rise over several hours. That's my own approach, YMMV.

I am going to do some test with this to see what the real affect fiber has on my BGL's.
Just curious what others thought. Didn't think that many low carb eaters would even touch something that had 50 grams of carbs in it.

Well, all of us agree that fiber can be subtracted from total carb count, so you're really talking about 22 net carbs for the cereal. What did you put on it, if anything? and what was your reading before eating?

I personally wouldn't touch a 22 net carbs meal, since I know this is past my limit for my target BGL's. But there are probably some who have a carb alowance that high - maybe even on OWL. I'm just not one of them.
