| So, it turns out in all the blood tests they did last week, what they came up with was a glucose level of 121. I don't know what comes next. I bought some books, because I think this "just" qualifies me as pre-diabetic, but as they dropped this on me over the phone, I don't know what my doctor has to say. He wants a 2 hour GTT, what does that do to induction? I'm a little freaked out, I guess. Is this something I can just ignore while I work on diet and exercise (which I am) for a bit? Prolly not, huh. Well, I'm doing some research now... I guess this explains some things. Robin |

| Ok, even more confusing... I just read an article on WebMD that says: Quote:

| If you have not read Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution, you should, Robin. Many of us have achieved completely normal A1c readings by following an Atkins regimen or Dr. Bernstein's approach, which is also low carb. It is disconcerting to hear that you had a 121 (presumably fasting) BGL after following a low carb regimen for several weeks. My blood sugars lowered immediately, and my FBS (fasting blood sugar) was down to normal within 2 weeks. Dr. Bernstein's book is available at Amazon, and I presume other places as well. He also has a website: http://www.diabetes-book.com/ I recommend Bernstein's book and the Atkins Diabetes Revolution as essential reading to anyone who has diabetes.

| Thanks, Maggie... I just picked up his, part II of Schwarzbein (ordered part 1 a few days ago), and the Atkins hardcover. I didn't think 121 was great either, because yeah... the test was done after a 12 hour fast, and I've been on plan for 5 weeks without slipping. I have to admit to being a little freaked out. I'm going to research, keep on doing what I'm doing, and get the test done when I can get it scheduled (they have a waiting list, apparently). So, I guess it explains why the weight has been coming off so slowly this time, at least in part... now what the heck do I do, though! I'm still a little shocked. Robin |
