A few weeks ago while at my doctors visit I had my blood sugar checked and it was 134 so my doctor gave me some pills to take and told me to watch my diet and now I have to moniter my blood sugar everyday for awhile and record it to so I can let my doctor know how its doing when I see him again. Could it have been me eating wrong? This happened befroe I went on low carb. Thats one reason why I decided to go on low carb in the first place was to help my blood sugar. The first week monitering it, it was always in the 100's from 110 to 125 but now this week it has been lower in the low 90's down into the 80's. Could me being on low carb be helping it go down? I have never been told before that I am a diabetic or had trouble with my blood sugar before, so why did it go up like that this time and why is it down to normal now? My doctor did not know either thats why we are keeping it monitered. I am just concerned about it thats all. I don't want to become a diabetic. Since I have been doing low carb these last two weeks it is getting better.

| I have heard of change in diet helping reverse the pre-diabetic state. Diabetes is one of my biggest fears. With bad eating habits and being obese I knew that it was a crap shoot every time I went and had my blood glucose tested. Luckily I was never abnormal and have dodged that bullet. That's great that your blood sugars have begun to normalize. Perhaps this will help your doctor understand the benefits of low carb so he can recommend the plan to other patients.

Sunshine - Absolutely! Low carb will help lower blood sugar in diabetics and prediabetics. If you want a good book on the subject - "Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. A Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars" Dr. Bernstein's Official Web Site:

Thanks, I will check the book out. I had read somewhere that low carb would help keep you blood sugar down and also that it would help keep your blood pressure and cholestrol down to. So it must be a great eating plan to be on so why don't more doctors tell their patients about it? My doctor says its great that I am on it because he to watches his carbs because he tends to put weight on easy. I know my doctor is all for low carb and We were talking of all the foods to cut out on low carb and they were the ones i have cut out already with Atkins plan. So I think other doctors should tell their patients to. Sure would help alot of people if they did.

Sunshine - The trouble is that the ADA (AMerican Diabetes Association) doesn't endorse low carb though they have admitted (only recently) that some patients might do better limiting carbs. I think each person must decide for themselves what works best for them and find a Doctor who goes along with their choice.
