Default Question about used monitors

This may seem like kind of a random question, but I figured here was as good a place as any to get this question answered.

I have a blood glucose monitor (Accu-Chek Advantage) that my Dr. made me get when I was pregnant with #2. (My sugar was sometimes borderline, but never had full-on gestational diabetes).

Anyway, I only used it for 2 months, maybe, so it's pretty new, but I don't need it anymore. Is it legal/ethical to sell a used BGM?

I looked on ebay, but didn't see any used ones. I have a garage sale I'm doing on Saturday, and thought I could put it out for sale there, but if people are going to think that's gross, then I won't.

I just don't want to toss it. If I can't sell it, could I donate it to a health clinic?

Thanks for any advice.

That's a good question, Mada.

Certainly there is no ethical/legal problem with selling it, since it's not a prescription item (in NY I'm 100% sure, and I really doubt it's a prescription item anywhere).

Probably the reason why you don't see any on ebay is that it's so cheap - usually free, if you look around - to get a brand new one. The mfr's make their money on the pricey strips, so there's probably not much interest in paying for a used one.

Thanks Maggie.

Now I'm wondering why I had to pay for my monitor!

LOL!

Well I "paid" for my monitor but it came with a "starter supply" of strips and lancets. When I worked out the price of the "supplies" on my subsequent purchases, I realized that the cost of the monitor was close to nothing.
