| Hi, I am not new to the low carb style of eating...I am a retired cop out of North Carolina...when I was a cop, we had to pass physical fitness tests on a regular basis...so I have done every diet known to man! I am 55 years old now and moved to sunny Florida...I love it here in Florida, but when I retired, I got lazy...I went out to eat alot and watched a lot of tv...something I didnt have time to do when I was working...I was a cop in a small town in western North Carolina..I worked in investigations and did the drug unit thing for the last 20 years of my career. Lots of late nights and eating bad food... One time I did the low carb and lost 140 pounds in about 10 months..It was the easiest diet I have ever done....all my blood work was in the perfect range... I am in a fix now... I have Type II diabetes now and high blood pressure...I'm sure its from being lazy.. I love the LCE way of life and I have been doing it for 3 weeks now and my blood sugar number has gone from 281 down to 189 in 3 weeks.. Blood pressure was 160/104 and is now down to 125/85...still a little more work on that.. I would love to talk to anyone who might be in the same boat as me... I think LCE is going to be very good for my diabetes... Diabetics...come on and talk to me... Im glad I found this site and look foward to talking to whoever Bill |

| Welcome, Bill. ![]() May of us here control our BGL's with diet alone. I've kept perfect A1c's for nearly 10 years now without meds. Since type2D is a kind of continuum, depending on when you get a good grip on eating and exercise, you may be able to control without meds, or with some help from a med that increases insulin sensitivity, like metformin. It REALLY helps if you have a health care professional on board who understands how dramatically a very low carb lifestyle can reduce BGL's, so that you can work together to see if any (and if so, how much) other help might be needed. For most, BP reduces with one's size and exercise. LOL!

| Welcome Bill! I was never diagnosed with diabetes but had strong suspicions I was heading towards that diagnosis shortly. My blood pressure just before i started Low carbing in feb. 2003 was 180 something over 110. My brother had died of a massive coronary only a few months before. Within weeks my blood pressure fell dramatically (138/80). I used my Type 1 diabetic sister's glucose monitor before i started and fasting level was 130 something. now it's 105 which is only slightly elevated. so Yeah this works! |

| howdy, bill...as far as talking to others about diabetes, there are several discussions here... if you do a search for diabetes, you'll get some idea of what all has been discussed around here - LowCarbEating Site Search Results | LowCarbEating when i was pregnant, i was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and the doc told me that in 20 years, if i didn't get the weight under control, i'd be a full blown diabetic... i was in my early 20's, so i ignored it....about 15 years after that, my next doc told me that at my BMI, i had about 45% chance of developing diabetes. since it runs in BOTH sides of my family, i knew my chances were even higher than that. i'd seen both of my grandmothers suffer with serious complications from diabetes, so that's when i got serious about lc, myself. i was not diagnosed, but i believe with all my heart i was probably only months away. i started lc'ing, and my next dr.'s visit, i was down 80 pounds...she was so excited, she went around telling the rest of the staff.... "my patient just lost 80 pounds!" i do think you're in the right place! ![]() |

| I'm Type II diabetic as well as my husband. We started low carbing around March 14. I got immediate results in my bg, down from an average of 7.8 (141) to a new average of 5.6 (101)! I've also been able to eliminate 2 out of 3 blood pressure meds. My husband took longer to get his bg levels down, but now he stays very close to normal values. His post meal readings are still a bit high but much lower than they'd been. So far I've lost only 3 pounds and he's lost only 2 but we are feeling so much better and it's a relief to be off the diabetes meds. You are probably a bit more insulin resistant than we are as weight can be a big contributor to that. I'm sure that over the next while your bg levels will continue their move down into the normal ranges. In the meantime, congratulations to you on your success so far. ![]() |
