Last week I heard that the FDA is on the verge of approving stevia to be used a sweetener. Previously it could only be marketed as a dietary supplement. Thursday when I was shopping, I found a new sweetener called Truvia. It is manufactured by Cargill/Dow. It is a blend of stevia and erythritol. I like it better than stevia or erythritol alone. I am thinking this may be the new natural sweetener that Coke is wanting to use in thier new naturally sweetened line of soft drinks. Truvia - Nature's perfect sweetness randysgrandma

| Thanks for the "heads up" on this product that seems to hold promise for many of us with blood sugar issues. I know that, of the polyols, only erythritol has proven to be completely friendly to my BGL's, so I'm looking forward to trying this. (I've copied this post to the "Product Review" section, since I think it would be of interest to the whole community, not all members of which regularly check the diabetic section.)

Hello, Wanted to let you know that Truvia is manufactured by Cargill, not Dow. I work on PR for the sweetener - more information is available on truvia(dot)com.

Just an FYI, Truvia is still a processed product. Since you can't patent naturally occuring things like the Steevia plant, Coke alterted Steevia so that it could patent it and is marketing it as Truvia. If you can find it, 100% real Stevia is the way I'd go.

I believe you should not consume too much artificial sweetner, so try to keep it to a minimum. People tend to need more of it to taste the same sweetness overtime. I have also seen in people who drink lots of soda that it stalls weight loss. I always need to put it in plain tea, sometimes I can manage without it. Unless its herbal tea, then I do not need the sweetner. I try to do water with lime or lemon or even put real rinds in the water, ie orange peel. Sometimes I drink vitamin water, its got 13g of carbs/8 oz serving (bottle is 2.5 servings), so I drink 4 oz. with 4 -6 oz water giving me approx 7 g carbs for a refreshing beverage. Oh I just started doing 1 oz. cream, with 4 oz water and a scoop of greensplus wildberry burst. Probably would taste better in the blender, but I like it as is! It is equivalant to about 5 servings of veggies and powder is 5 g carbs. My 2 year old daughter likes it too. here's a link: Greens Plus - Superfood rich in chlorophyll.
