I had reported 3 months ago about my first visit to my endocrinologist after a month of Atkins. At that time I had lost about 20 lbs and my blood sugar,BP, cholesterol and HbA1c had all improved. The doc had warned me about Atkins and claimed I wasn't on "real Atkins" since I wasn't eating 8 eggs and 3 lbs of meat each day.

Well 3 months later and 20 lbs less I went for my next physical. This time I came prepared. Didn't metion Atkins, only said I was low carbing and started to freely quote 'Dr. Bernsteins Diabetes Solution". All my numbers were beautiful and after much cajoling I managed to get my meds reduced substantially( Glucovance, Lipitor and Benicar dosages halved.Actos and Verapamil no longer required).

The Doc now warned me that I was losing weight too rapidly and that he wanted me to eat at least 1800 calories a day. He was shocked when I told him that I was generally eating at least 2000 calories a day. He next told me that in his experience the only way to keep the weight off is by exercise and we discussed my exercise program and he was very helpful in making suggestions on how to improve it.

In summary- Low Carbing really helped this type II diabetic and it is possible to work with a MD who doesn't appreciate low carbing.

Wow, Les! That is fantastic!!

I **know** you are happy and you deserve to be proud. You have made incredible strides in your progress -- even with an oppositional physician. Who knows? You may convert him eventually!
Congratulations; you are an inspiration for others...

Wow you're doing so good, give yourself a pat on the back!! I agree saying Atkins sometimes get's a bad response let the test results speak for themselves. My doctor doesn't seem to mind he just looks at my A1c and others test results.
