| some people amaze me My friend's dad is a diabetic, takes insulin shots twice a day and he wonder's why his sugar is so high at times at low at other times....you should see him eat!!!!! SWEETS,SWEETS AND MORE SWEETS AND OFFERS THEM TO ME.I'm a diabetic, have no desire for sweets any longer, sometimes i have to make myself eat,i have changed my way of eating forever,he thinks i'm crazy for eating low carb.....i know this will control my sugar, help me get the weight off and just be happy with myselfJunie 09-15-03, 04:00 AM I think it is just part of the sickness...I was in denial myself..thought it was great to eat what I wanted then take insulin to control it...then I saw results of hemoglobin aic and changed my mind...withing a week of eating lc my sugars were normal again! To get to the rainbow you must first pass through the rain!Brightlady 09-15-03, 06:42 AM It's not just part of the sickness. Since the adoption of the pyramid, diabetics are being told by dieticians that a carb is a carb is a carb. Check out the diabetes diet wars in the other threads. Always eat your veggies first! bella 09-15-03, 07:23 AM It's a hard thing to accept that what you eat could harm you so much or kill you. I know it took me a long time to accept that I'm the one that's gotta get control over this. I thought I didn't care but evertime time I got a 200-300 or higher reading I was actually scared to death. You either accept it or you don't , but I want to see my kids grow up and have kids much more than I want a pizza.tortpoint (mag42@comcast.net) 09-17-03, 04:54 PM I have been a Type 2 diabetic for about a year no. When my Dr. told me he said get back on that low carb diet and stay there. I've brought my blood sugars down to normal. Fbs 80-95 in am with no medication.Kumus 09-17-03, 05:42 PM Unfortunately, I think some patients may view their insulin injection much like a shot of pencillin. Eat, take the insulin because it reverses any negative effects of the food. I happen to personally know someone with this mindset, sad but true. I have not been able to convince him otherwise. Susan LCE Member since 01/02 341/285.5/185LisaC 02-24-04, 06:37 PM It's sad when people are in denial. As for me, I got tired of my fingers going numb because I was trying to eat like everyone else. I got rid of the wheat, went low carb, medical problems leave. Good to feel my fingers again.Rob (Roblosesweight2003@yahoo.com) 04-02-04, 07:18 AM An ex inlaw of mine had this same mindset. She would eat cake and cookies and just inject to counteract. But one day things went horribly wrong and her blood sugar shot up past 500 and may have reached 800 before she died. At 32, leaving a 4 year old and an 8 year old behind. Rob 310/226.5/180 Me, a skeptic? I trust you have proof. gilley79 04-02-04, 10:18 AM reading these stories remind me of my Motherinlaw... she is diabetic and is insulain dependant.. she recently was in a diabetic coma thank god she came out of it.. her suggar was over 800 when they found her. and it stayed at over 700 for more than 2 days.. that was w/ out eating for at least 3 days.. she lived w/ us for a small amount of time some 2 yrs ago.. and i witnessed her trying to eat her self to death. She would eat 1/2 a bag of "belly buster" potato chips at a time. 5 servings of tator tots w/ velveta cheese melted on them at one time.. then she would go to sleep for some 3 hrs.. (in the middle of the day) then get back up and start her cycle over agin. Eating alot of crapy food.!!! then go pump her self full of insulan and pass out agin.. her sisters are both diabetic and one is actualy on dialisis (sp) So i put my foot down w/ my husband and told him it was time for him to take care of himself. Now i dont make him eat nothing but "good" food. But i am makeing him eat "like" me w/ this WOL. I told my husband he should talk to his mother about talking to her dr to see if this wol would be something she should do. i doubt he ever will and she will not talk to me. So i will just try my best to help my family not have the same health issues that my DH's family has. It is just so sad to see someone eat them self to death.. even if they are not morbidly obese. 01/02/04-248 01/23/04-243 02/12/04-226 02/18/04-221 |

| Well i did it.. i mentioned to my husbands family about LC eating.. beacuse we were informed that yet agin another one of his aunts are in the hospital w/ Kidney failure! her kidneys are functioning at only 20% and she is only 37 yrs old... and you know what i was told!- "Our family isnt much for diets" NO KIDDING! then they said "it is to expencive" (to expencive to save your life?????) Now i was wondering it seems as if mostly it is the females in my DH family that are haveing these health problems, Does that mean that my DH is at less risk since it seems to be passed to the females???? His cousin is only maby 20 yrs old and has a 2 yr old and she was told by her dr a few months ago that she will be on insulain w/ in the next 3 yrs... I realy tried to stress how important it is for her to change her life so she can be around for her son while he grows up.. but that didnt matter.. she is the one that said "our family isnt much for diets" I pray for them beacuse they do need it. I just wish some dr would tell them what to do!!!!!

| More of what you DO counts than what you say...when they see you and hubby getting healthier and NOT having all the health problems, MAYBE they will start to wonder where the differences lie. Maybe then they will be "a little for diets". I will try to remember to pray for them also...I have such a long list!

| well we hardly ever see them... they live 1/2 way on the other side of the usa from us... thank you for praying for them. But the only person who can help them now is their selfs... meaning i cant twist their arms in to anything... but thanks for the thought for them!

| I have a family member like this. He skips meals all day, then drinks regular pepsi because his blood sugar is dropping too low. He can't seem to understand why his readings then are so high after the pepsi. I had dinner with them one night and he made fried apples. He measured out 1/4 cup sugar to cook them in. He kept going back and POURING more sugar on them, he did this 3 or 4 times. He covered those apples with sugar each time. A couple hours after dinner he took his reading and couldn't for the life of him understand why it was so incredibly high...after all "those apples only had 1/4 cup sugar, I measured it!" He just doesn't get it. |
