| jkell, Brightlady's DH is on a pump and does modified LC, I believe. I'm not sure if she's around since I've been gone a while myself, but I'll try to contact her for you. Naturally, though, your doctor's advice and direction takes priority.

| It depends on whether it is an "open loop" or "closed loop" type of pump. One kind delivers a slow trickle and a bolus when directed or pre-programed. The other calibrates delivery based on it's own monitoring of BGL's. Which kind are you talking about?

| Jeanny, do YOU have a pump? If so, naturally, you have to work with your health care provider regarding its use. I thought you were just asking, in general, about how the pumps work and how they'd work with this way of eating.

| Yes please check with the docs even if you have an insulin pump they just recalled a new one that was put out on the market. I don't have one but several people I know at my office have one and the recall hit the papers. A doctor or pharmacist should know which ones have been recalled. I think it was Quick---something. The older models were good but the new one was not.

| I've been doing the insulin pump for the last 4 1/2 years and I consulted with my endocrinologist before beginning South Beach. Your basal rates will probably have to be changed and maybe your bolus amounts for meal time since the carb count is so low on this meal plan. I'm really getting into it right now cause my insulin amounts have decreased 30% in the two weeks I've been on the plan. Just talk to your doctor and see if he/she is familiar with South Beach and let them help you with whatever adjustments you may need to make. Good Luck! |
