| The journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention this week reports the results of a study, funded by U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Ministry of Health of Mexico, and the American Institute for Cancer Research, which finds that high intake of carbohydrates appears to double the risk of breast cancer. The news report can be read here.

| Great article! Hopefully, we will see more studies like this to confirm what we here at LCE already know.

| Oh, gilley, I'm so sorry. That is what makes studies like this so important. Anything that can lower our risk of this horrible disease is a good thing to know about. I wonder, too, how the people who said a high protein diet can increase your risk will respond to this. I don't remember how they factored in carb level...?

| I also read this article today. This was such wonderful news to me. My mother is a breast cancer survivor, my DH's mother died in 1981 from breast cancer. It is to support studies like this that I ride the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge to benefit the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. These types of studies, and all the research and development going on now, cost money - a lot of money. The PMC bike ride, by the way, is the largest fund raiser for the Dana Farber. Last year, we raised $16 million dollars!!! And, 93 cents of every dollar goes to the Dana Farber. This year is the 25th anniversary of the PMC - we plan to raise $17 million, again 93 cents of every dollar will go to the Dana Farber. The PMC has donated almost $120 million over its 25 year history. The PMC is a 192 mile bike ride from Sturbridge, Massachusetts to Provincetown waaaay out on the Cape. If anyone would like to sponsor my ride ((please contact member for this information)). (Andrea, I hope you don't mind that I asked for support - if this is a problem, I completely understand - you can delete the post). **Jesty: why don't you give people a way to contact you directly, OK? I think that would be better. Although Dana Farber is certainly a worthwhile cause, if I let everyone solict for their favorite charity here, I think things might get out of hand. But I have no problem having you say "contact me".**
