The Nutrition and Food Company Donates Four Truck Loads of Product

NEW YORK, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Atkins Nutritionals, Inc. (ANI) has donated over one million of its Atkins Advantage(TM) bars to the relief efforts following the devastation of Hurricane Charley. In response to a request for help from Feed the Children, representatives at Atkins wasted no time in releasing product to the non-profit organization for distribution throughout affected areas of Florida.


The donation is being coordinated through Feed The Children, a Christian, international, non-profit relief organization with headquarters in Oklahoma City, OK.


"We have been contributing to this organization for over four years, and the good they do in times of crisis is unwavering," said Colette Heimowitz, vice president of education and research for Atkins Health & Medical Information Services. "Our thoughts are with those who have suffered through this tragedy. We can't know what they are going through right now, but we can certainly help."


Hurricane Charley has put a tremendous demand on Feed The Children's resources, and they were not in a position to immediately handle logistics and transportation for the donation. To further assist in this critical project, Atkins worked in partnership with Roadtex Transportation, a New Jersey-based trucking company, to expedite delivery of the bars. The donated product is now on its way to Florida.


The Atkins Advantage(TM) bars were selected because they are portable, satisfying, nutrient-dense and non-perishable. The donation will fill four semi-trucks and be distributed through a network of non-profit organizations who work together with Feed The Children to make sure products reach those in need.


Ms. Heimowitz said, "With everything else these people have to deal with, no one should have to worry about having enough to eat. Anything we can do as a company to help, we're going to do."

While I think it's great and wonderfull thing that they are assisting in a time of need, I just can't help myself but to ponder the questions.. who's going to donate all the extra porta johns and TP that they will be needing? ROLMBO!
