| Did anyone watch Shepard Smith's "The Fox Report" last night? (Fox News, 6PM, CST). There was an upcoming segment blurb about some new negative reports about Atkins . . . and I missed it! I got a business phone call and spent 20 minutes on the phone. Sigh.

| This is probably it, Alida. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,131288,00.html It's a loosely organized, wandering story with a bunch of different opinions interspersed throughout. I found this interesting: Quote:

| Maggie, LOL. Thanks for the link. As with ALL news stories of this ilk, there may be some truths, but a lot of garbage, too. I think what so many anti-LCers forget is that some people ARE carbaholics. Until this scientific fact is understood and accepted, I fear we will always run across these types of uninformed news stories. You know, if there's a news story that proclaims "The World is Round!", there will be someone out there who will dispute it! "

| OK, these are the points that stood out for me. AAARRRGGGG!!!! These people are idiots! Sorry, I don't usually say that about people but I am so sick of this. And here we have people saying they aren't doing something (low carb) when they ARE! Good God people! "I like pasta on occasion ? and I eat dark bread in the morning. But I switched more to low-sodium V8 as opposed to orange juice, which is high in sugar [and carbs]. And I don't eat junk food ? I can't even keep ice cream in the house," said the Maryland resident. Ah, gee, don't we call this a "low carb maintenance" plan????? ?To say a carb is a carb is a carb is really ridiculous ? that apples are the same as jelly beans," she said. Ah, duh....???? We never said they were. "Also a former South Beach dieter, Krell now limits her intake of bread, sugar and pasta, but no longer eliminates any fruits and vegetables from her diet. "We're not doing it long-term anymore," she said, referring to herself and her husband. Ah, YES YOU ARE!!!! Just what in the HE** do you think "long term" means? These people are driving me crazy... (read this with your BEST kindergarten teacher voice talking to 4 year olds) OK boys & girls, now, lets count to 10!! 1, 2, 3, ... Very good! Now, lets discuss what the phrase "long term" means. That means you are going to do something in a way that you can do it for a long time and keep doing it. Like mostly eat yummy proteins and fruits and veggies and then just eating "bad" stuff now and then like when you're at your friends house. Understand? Good! Now lets have some lc milk & cookies!

| ROFL MarcieLynn!! I read the article and kept thinking that it sounds like low carb to me. I don't really even use LC anymore when people ask if I am on Atkins. I say that I am controlling my carb intake and not eating flour and sugar. Also, I can't believe that the "trend has peaked". WW's has a new plan and the food on their CORE list seems to be from the South Beach Diet. LOL that they give you food lists that are lower in carbs but they dare not call it that.

| Glory, I totally agree. AND, the funny part is that my DH has been calling it for a long time. For the last 2 YEARS he's been saying to me that "they" will never "call it" low carb because they can't. They can't admit they're wrong after all this time. His thought has always been that generally "lower carb" ideas, products, thoughts, etc will begin hitting the mass media and the public and then one day, it'll just be "fact" that this is how it works....blah, blah, blah. No fanfare, no parade, no special announcement. By golly I think DH was right! Of course, he's pretty sharp and is right most of the time

| The original editorial (NOTE: editorial, not study) appeared in the Lancet. It was picked up by every major news organization including CNN, NBC and CBS. The first report submitted by a member was posted to the news forum and that happened to be the FOX report, but it has appeared everywhere. We don't put redundant reports into this forum. You are entitled to hate Fox, or any other news organization all you wish, but if you wish to hate every network that bashes low carb eating, then you'd better work up a good amount of hate, since you'll need to spread it around.

| Marcie . . . tell us how you really feel! And speaking of the general public being unaware . . . so is my doctor! I went in for general checkup and to have my thyroid checked. First, when I went over my temperatures with her, she asked me "What does that mean?" And when I told her I was low carbing, she went off on a rant that all that stuff is garbage and just made by companies for a profit. Well, she is sorta kinda right on about a lot of the low carb stuff on the market, but I told her I don't eat those things, just meat, veggies, etc. etc. Told her I was eating a more healthy diet than before LCing. That seemed to calm her down.
