Default Low Carb Side Effects Cited

Another article telling everyone we have bad breath and we're constipated.

However, some positive points were also made.

Quote:
"More people stayed in the low-carb group than in the low-fat group, so you've got to wonder how severe those side effects were if more people kept to the low-carb diet," said William Yancy, a Duke University researcher who conducted one of the major studies that Astrup reviewed.
And finally! Someone admits...
Quote:
Experts have suspected that the weight loss on a low-carb diet may be largely due to water loss, because lots of fluid is bound up in the body's carbohydrate stores that are depleted. However, Astrup said body composition studies indicated the weight loss is a real fat loss, not just water.
...of course, with this caveat:
Quote:
These side effects are consistent with carbohydrate deficiency, because the brain and muscle do not get enough sugar from carbohydrates to maintain their normal function, Astrup said.

My brayne herts too, Tara.

This is just another of the numerous stories spawned by the Lancet article, but it seems worthwhile to post it, since at least these guys interviewed one of the Duke researchers whose work was "interpreted" by the Danish guy who wrote the article, which was much more editorial than it was ground breaking. LOL!

I never understand the constipation--close your eyes...I poop A LOT! If you aren't pooping, then you aren't eating healthy, i.e., veggies.

Yep, Maggie...

They're milkin' that one to death! But I figured since there were some positive comments, I'd post it.

Ow, my brayne.

Isn't it a miracle that the human animal was able to survive this long, with all those thousands and thousands of years of having to eat meat, plant foods, and animal fat? What a wonder that we're all here today! Thank goodness we've survived into an era of white bread and cheetos, which are evidently necessary to avoid the extinction of our species, and are critical to the development of our brains. I'm so thrilled we discovered corn syrup before it was too late! As Americans are, as a group, so much healthier now than we were before heavily processed food was available. . . oh, wait a minute. . . let me take that last part back. . .
