Default Calories - Do Count?

An intersting article on low carb and those low carb versions of "regular" foods.

"Avoiding these special low-carb products altogether has been the key to successful weight loss for Linda Fischer of Citrus Heights. She has lost 70 pounds through a low-carb lifestyle and has kept her weight down for two years. She finds success by sticking with the original Atkins plan, which was based on whole, natural foods rather than carb-branded items."

"There's nothing wrong with eating these new low-carb products as long as you include them in your whole calorie plan," says Annette Dreith, a dietitian and diabetes educator at Med Clinic Medical Group in Sacramento. "The main problem I see is that they are 'nonfood' - they have little or no nutritional value. Many of these items do not even taste good, but people eat them anyway because they are low in carbohydrates. If it doesn't taste good, don't eat it and waste the calories."

I agree!

Good article.
The one thing that bothers me about most people on LC (as with low fat or any other diet plan) is the way they buy it because it is low carb and think they can eat all they want of it and still lose weight. I'm sorry, but if all I ate was lc chocolate and pork rinds etc. I wouldn't lose a single pound, not to mention I'd be sick for days.

good article--though I can't eat more than one or two LC treats a month or they start to effect me badly
