Default Reduced-carb donut

So, OK I know 15 grams of carbs for one donut still is a lot and this would be nothing to have more than once in a blue moon but considering how most of the donuts on the company's web site have 50-200 carbs this seemed pretty good. This is a glazed donut and weighs in at half the regular glazed donut carbs.

If you have ever tasted one of LaMar's big donuts you know they are hard to resist.

The newspaper that carried this story has no website so I am going to summarize the highlights of the article.

"Denver-based LaMar's Donuts has introduced a reduced-carb doughnut called the "Fifteener," a square-shaped 15-carb doughnut.

The doughnut will debut in all LaMar's Donuts locations in early November with a suggested retail price of $1.19.

...

Based on blind taste tests ...LaMar's decided to make the doughnut square to make it easier to identify.

...

"The trick isn't making a low-carb doughnut that's easy...the trick is making one that tastes good.""

Like I said it's not something for everyday or even every week consumption but maybe it will be a good thing. I just hope it doesn't use something to cause gastric distress. When they come out I'm sure they'll be on the company website and the full nutirtional information will be available.

Noel, I read somewhere a few months ago that Krispy Kreme (my #1 weakness) was going to launch a lowcarb version of their famous glazed donut. I wonder if they did?

Sounds very very dangerous to me. And since I live in Krispy Kreme's hometown I hope they never do get a LC donut.

When I'm in my work van and driving out of our parking lot to the street (headed to my first account), I have to literally drive past Krispy Kreme. To avoid it, I'd have to turn across the lanes, against traffic and go over a mile out of my way. AND the "Hot Light" is ALWAYS on in the mornings when I go by. AND YOU CAN SMELL THEM FROM OUR PARKING LOT!!! I think I'm a candidate for lowcarb sainthood here! LOL!

I freakin' LLLLLOOOOOVVVVEE those darn donuts! Not the fancy kind, just the plain, hot glazed ones. I cannot imagine what the carb count is one just one plain glazed Krispy Kreme donut is....probably more than any self-respecting low carber would eat in a whole day!

I believe that there are Krispy Kremes in Heaven and they have no transfats carbs, or calories. (crickets chirping......)

Maxibee hit the nail on the head - even if they make a scrumsious low carb donut, it has to be full of transfats - oh well - if they don't kill us one way they will another.

Thanks, Rob!

Seriously, though....I really believe carbs ARE addictive and they are best left alone (as far as the sugar carbs). The process of NOT getting Krispy Kremes has been a long one. I used to get some for breakfast, and swear I would not have another carb all day. "I'll just get that single insulin spike...and it'll be okay." Never worked. Along with feeling guilty, bloated, tired and up a pound, I would be angry at myself. Then came the day, just as my Dr.Phil Weight Loss Challenge group was coming together, I found a pen in the Krispy Kreme parking lot. It was a Bic and it said "Wide Body" on the side of it. It was like a message from God: "I see you poisoning yourself with those donuts again!"
I think I've only been back 2 or 3 times since then.
I love them, however, I cannot eat them and lose weight and be healthy. Every day I drive by and I look at the people going in. Some overweight people....I just want to scream out the window "No, just walk away!" And some thin people....I wish I was like them, eat whatever I want and not worry about it. But, I do realize their triglyceride levels may exceed mine greatly, even if their weight does not.
Maybe once a carboholic, always a (recovering) carboholic. But, it sure feels good to be "sober".
Maybe God let me find a job directly across from the Krispy Kreme to build my character and resistance......I wish it was some nasty Chinese or Lebanese restaurant instead! (Love the people, hate the food.) That way, I'd be grossed out every morning instead of tempted! LOL!

I have to drive past one twice a day--once on the way to the gm and once on the way home. . .fortunately I have never stopped but if I ever started it would be nearly impossible to stop...I know me! I can only imagine what it would be like to have to work across form the darned place--you win sainthood in my book!!!

Thanks, Lori! Any more votes for me? (If I had of thought about it back then, I would've had a Krispy Kreme wedding cake. LOL!)

Anyone seen the commercial (don't remember what it's advertising) where the people have the cinnamon rolls and donuts (big) attached to their bodies? The guy's belly is a cinnamon roll and the woman's uh....behind parts are 2 donuts. THAT'S the image that comes to mind when I'm struggling to keep the van from turning into the Krispy Kreme store!
Thankfully, it's getting to be less and less of a struggle! I'm sure downing a 16.9 oz. bottle of water on the way to work helps with that.
Oh, yeah....about my bid for sainthood....I work for a coffe/vending company. I handle hundreds of candy bars, chips, and pastry every day.....and I don't remember the last time I actually had any of it! (I'm the "health nut" that carries a cooler to work!)
THIS is why I had no sympathy for the "Biggest Losers" when they had to make, bake, and sell that stuff for a challenge. Sets you up for living in the real world!

I saw a krispy kreme wedding cake on For Better or for Worse on TLC. I like donuts but when they brought Krispy Kreme's here I was not excited, some people were acting like it was the first time Denver had food after a famine. Who lines up around the block for a donut? They're ok but I like LaMar's better but both are out of my way and I wouldn't drive to get a donut. (Now when the office lady would bring them in of course I'd have to eat them!) Every once in a while I would get one in the grocery store and walk around eating it while I shopped.

I have seen the commercial you are referring to. Funny. I've got a whole lot little candy bars stuck around my middle with a couple big macs on my back side.

I've got the mailman's candy on my computer desk staring me in the face every day so I know your temptation Maxi. Especially since I use to have a few of those "fun size" candy bars every day. Now I use them as a reminder of what I am fighting against. Of course I do still get tempted by them but mostly when he opens the container and the sweet smell of chocolate comes out. I no longer crave them but that doesn't mean they don't still smell REALLY good.

I'm sure these new donuts are going to be no good for me but I must say that if I am in the area I might just stop in and see what all the hype is about. One may not kill me but I'm sure one a day just might make the process happen a little quicker.
