| It will be such a happy day when low carb is no longer considered a "fad diet"!

| OK why can't they get it right..."which shun foods like bread and pasta in favor of proteins such as meat and cheese" How about vegetables? WE EAT VEGETABLES!!! Could have said in favor of meat, cheese and low carb vegetables. "The craze, however, had died down by the end of the year and sales of low-carb products slowed" The "craze"? This is not like Optifast or something that was here in the 80's and disappeared. This has been a WOE for a lot of people for a very long time, like since the 70's! It has had a surge in the 90's and 00's. Oh well. Maybe the people that start it for their new year's resolutions will stick with and all will be good. I guess personally I don't care how many people are doing it. It works for me...though I guess if the market wasn't ther then I wouldn't be able to get the wraps I like.

| Im glad its on the rise again. I was one of those resolutionists who jumped on the bandwagon last year and this year im still around, so im sure there will be a newbie that will be in my shoes next year. Its really great when someone can change bad habits and do something so wonderful for their health.

| i wasnt surprised .. kinda figured when the new years resolutions started that people would be doing LC again...i noticed a new ATKINS book at the store that i hadnt seen before..not sure if it was NEW or just a NEW cover on an old rehash.. im just glad there are people like ANDREA going to conventions and getting out the word about what TRUE LC people WANT and NEED from the manufacturers... it STILL amazes me how many of them havent switched from aspartame and malitol tho... HEY! BIG BUSINESSES! YA LISTENING?? we HATE that crap! *L* |

| Diet stores and gyms experience a big surge in January, and it usually tapers off by February. Food manufacturers jumped on the low-carb "craze" by making substitute foods, like low-carb pastas, snack bars, and munchies. Many of these foods, if eaten to excess, add calories as well as a hefty dose of sugar substitutes. Not a great idea for ongoing success. The same thing happened, of course, with "fat free" and "sugar free." People started to eat too much of these substitute foods, and their diets "failed." IMHO, serious and successful low-carbers stick mostly to REAL food like vegetables, whole grain cereals and crackers (if their personal carb level allows), and legal fruits. This is a somewhat tougher discipline to learn than the old snack-food habit. |
