Default Wheat consumption linked to osteoporsis

MSNBC: gluten intolerance linked to osteoporosis Summary:

Celiac disease, also known as gluten intolerance, is a condition where consumption of gluten (a component of wheat) prevents absorption of vital nutrients, including Vitamin D and Calcium. Insufficent calcium and Vitamin D may lead to osteoporsis, a condition where the bones become weaker and more brittle.

In such cases, the osteoporsis may be reversible when the celiac disease is reversed.
Quote:
Celiac disease triggers an immune reaction to the gluten portion of wheat, interfering with the intestine?s absorption of various foods. Some patients do not know they have the disease because their symptoms are minor.

In the study, patients with celiac disease and osteoporosis who went on a gluten-free diet for one year were able to improve both gastrointestinal symptoms and bone density, the report said.
This makes me wonder if the reason some people feel so much better on low carb diets is perhaps due, in part, to borderline or undiagnosed gluten intolerance.
