| Thanks for posting this Barb - its a very good article. I think its so important to be informed and have rationale underpinning our plans. I was very impressed on one thread here last week to see some very strong counterpoints put forward - we really need to be an informed WOE community if we are to help others. |

| Thanks Barb! I've never been much for sweet stuff but did enjoy a good pastry, pie or cake every once in a blue moon pre-low carb. I hadn't heard the one about sugar supressing immune function before. Might be something to it since I get only about one in four the family colds. And then i only have it for a few days (usually).

| I read a study that sugar suppresses immune system for up to 4 hours. If you ever feel like you are coming down with something (a cold), immediately go on meat/veggies only diet for 1-2 days and chances are extremely good that you will not get the 'bug.' I used to have a cold nearly every month. I did not have even ONE last winter, with the exception of about a 3-day cold (they usually last 2+ weeks) after an event where I was sleep deprived and travelling. And if you have to ask yourself, "Am I coming down with something?" assume the answer is 'Yes.' <s> |

| I had the stomach flu last tuesday. I was violently ill for the morning, felt achy and tired all day. But I got over it quickly. I attribute that to my stronger immune system. And I haven't been sick for most of the 2 and a half years I have been LCing. Gotta love the sugar-free life!!!!

| Just have to second your thoughts, Barb! I am the same way. I'm exposed to all kinds of sick people all the time, but have not been sick much at all since starting lcing. Never knew about sugar suppressing the immune system. That is very interesting!

| Strengthening the immune system is a good enough reason for me to cut all sugar out of my diet, not to mention the the weight issues of it.
