Well done, Andrea.
People need to realize that just because the businessmen messed up, it doesn't mean the science doesn't work. Low carb has brought a new awareness to many people, even those who don't actually follow the lifestyle.
I just hope the general public will remember that.

Andrea, I wrote this on another thread but I think that the article was well written and you came across along with the others interviewed in a positive way. So many times these journalists put in the pro-low carb quotes and then still go on to bash the plan but this lady seemed to be fair and more impartial than so many others before her.

Good article...and by the way, Atkins is far from dead, in fact the new spokesperson for Atkins, Stuart Trager wrote a hardcover book that is coming out in May 2006 titled "The All-New Atkins Advantage: 12 Weeks to a New Body, A New You, A New Life". I found it by searching low carb books on amazon.com.

I just think the Atkins company is revamping - they'll keep making bars and shakes. Let's face it, their low carb pasta was awful and so were a few other products. I'll really miss the bread mixes but I have so many low carb bread recipes, I'm sure I won't miss them for long! They're not the only company to suffer. Keto Foods a pioneer in low carb products went belly up last year.

I really feel there is a need for low carb products - but quality, good-tasting products, not some of the garbage that was out there. Dreamfields pasta is a good example of a quality product. Sure hope that doesn't die with the rest of them!

I do believe lowcarbing is here to stay. I've never felt better in my life although I'm not on Atkins. I follow the plan in the book Life Without Bread, which is more moderately carbed and really suits me well.

Whichever plan we follow, I think we all agree that low carb is far from dead!

Gee LCgal, for a "newbie" you sure seem to have a grasp of what's been going on in the world of low carb

Andrea, I've studied low carbing like I'm going for my ph.d, because I'm determined to really make this work.

To be honest, I'm not really "new" to low carbing; I've flirted with it on and off for far too long, but never really committed. So I guess I feel "new." But now it's time to dive in and take control. My mother in law is dying from out of control diabetes, due to her high carb eating pattern, and this is my final wake-up call and warning. I don't want that to happen to me. She was warned by doctors and given a print-out of an easy to follow low carb plan, but she was in total denial.

I've always loved to learn about nutrition, and what I've learned about low carbohydrate eating is an eye opener.

I feel new, because now I am going to FINALLY apply all my knowledge. I've found an eating plan I am happy with and there is just no excuse anymore.

I am really glad to be part of this forum!
