Default Whole grains reduce diabetes risk

I found this on my Yahoo news. I really didn't think this was new news. Supposedy during WWI when there was rationing, Britains had to eat whole grains because the processed grains were not available. The story goes that the rate of diabetes and heart disease dropped; after the war, when those processed foods were available again, the rates of diabetes and heart disease rose.

Sadly, all the junk cereals are touting their products because they are "whole grains"; however, they fail to mention that a large portion of them are also filled with corn syrup. (If you substitute 2 bowls of Special K, or your favorite Post cereals for 2 regular meals a day, you'll lose weight! I hate those commercials. Where's the nutrition in bowl of cereal as opposed to a nice meal of lean meat and veggies?)

And I'm really suspicious of the "whole grain" white breads coming out.

I'm glad we low carbers know what real whole grains are, and what real food is, and we've known for a long time that real foods can protect us from many diet-related maladies.

Interesting article, Nita, although I share your reservations.

Thanks for posting!

Unless I can see the whole grain, it is not whole grain in my book.
