This vindicates what Dr. Atkins said that LC would do for diabetics. He was way ahead of his time in this field. Too bad more people haven't taken the research to heart, there'd be a lot fewer diabetic complications and fewer people with such severe health problems. My mother-in-law died of complications of Type II diabetes, mainly because her condition was poorly managed by her doctor. Had she known about low carb and followed a healthy diet, she might have lived longer. As it was, she was only 63 when she died. Every time she was put in the hospital, her "diabetic" diet had corn, peas and white bread on the plate. Even back then I knew that those would not be good foods for a diabetic. (1969-1972) But I was just a dumb little daughter-in-law, and the doctor was GOD! Harumph!

I'm right with you, Nita. I see those recommended diabetic diets and it makes my blood boil.

There's a lot of great research being done on low carbing as it relates to numerous conditions and a lot of it can be found in Nutrition and Metabolism - as far as I know the first peer reviewed journal that encourages submissions from researchers looking at these issues.
