| http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/546472 (You may need to register; it's quick and easy). The gist of the article is that "Individuals who consumed at least 2.8 servings of vegetables per day slowed their rate of cognitive decline by roughly 40% compared to those who consumed less than 1 serving per day--a decrease that is equivalent to about 5 years of younger age." Green, leafy vegetables were found to have the strongest association with slowed decline in cognitive function, and, interestingly, fruits were not found to have an association. And best of all, they theorize that part of the reason green, leafy vegetables may help is that they are frequently eaten with "salad dressings, mayonnaise, margarine, or butter, which increase vitamin E absorption...". Don't you just love it when something that fits our WOE turns out to be SO good for you, too? Aderyn |
