| I watched my local new last night and saw an article about a 1 year study of women on various diets, ATKINS won over three other diets (Ornish, Zone and can't remember the last).... They said that women in a year study lost and kept more off using the ATKINS diet than any other diet in the study....mmmm havn't we been saying that.... anyway, look for a glut of LC foods again..... c

| Seems to be a cycle, doesn't it? Yet those of us who've been at this awhile don't need studies, LOL!

| I was thinking the same thing... And of course, Dean ORNERY'ish was bashing low-carb (as usual) saying that of course, it's easier to eat brie & bacon instead of fruits and veggies... HELLO???? The ONLY time in my life that I have eaten veggies regularly is when following this woe (way of eating)! Apparently HE hasn't been introduced to Hostess, Hershey's, and Krispy Kreme! LOL!

| I found it interesting that after one year no one was really following their assigned diet. But carbohydrate consumption of the Atkins group still was far less than the other 3 plans. And saturated fat was highest in the Atkins group but experienced no increase in LDL (bad cholesterol). And best of all Body fat % dropped almost twice as much as the next nearest group (Ornish). |

| I've enjoyed reading a wide variety of responses to this JAMA publication. My favorite blogger is Regina White, who always has thoughtful and detailed analyses of all matters low-carb. www.weightoftheevidence.com All dedicated low-carbers are getting a chortle out of this study. As Rob says, we don't need a study to know what works--and even better, what feels good as a sustainable way of eating. And yes, I also foresee a new round of low-carb product roll-outs. Certain sabotage for those who think they can replicate their old carb-eating habits with substitute food products. I'm thinking that my first project in retirement a couple of years from now will be a book aimed, not at losing weight, but at the challenges and techniques of sustaining a weight loss. By then, I will have six or seven convincing years of experience under my belt (my much smaller belt!), and will poll all my friends at LCE for evidence. Watch for it! Happy St. Patrick's Day tomorrow everybody. :jumpgreen |
