| http://www.rd.com/content/are-vitami...good-for-you-/ I found the antioxidant info interesting... seems like that's the nutritional buzz-word these days!

| Oh gosh......well, I'd rather take a few supplements than not, frankly. Just stubborn that way.

| Interesting article but I have to say that I would never get my rda of all nutrients without supplementaion. farm produce has less vitamins and minerals today than 40 years ago. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says that it takes several cups of today’s spinach to equal the nutrition that a single cup provided in 1960. As produce growers develop higher crop yields the nutrient density suffers. Milk and bread are forified with vitamins and mineral since the 1940s when the government realized we weren't getting enough of selected vitamins like D and certain B vitamins. But how much milk and bread do we low carbers eat? I drink about 1/4 cup of milk a week and only because that's all my sister has to put in coffee. I do eat low carb bread occasionally but When i put my daily food intake into fitday I come up woefully short in about 7 vitamins or minerals. I would recommend that at the very least we take a multivitamin and a vitamin C supplement. As always this is IMHO.

| I totally agree, Rob. DH and I have said many times we should just chuck it all and move out the farm. I did think that the information on the vitamins to avoid (E, A, etc...) was good. Didn't know that about them (but I also wasn't taking any of those).

| Michael Eades commented on the JAMA article in his blog, and it was quite a long comment, but to condense it, he feels that our best bet is to eat right first (low carb, with lots of good saturated fats), exercise, and then add a few specific supplements to help our bodies produce their own antioxidants. http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/2...dants-harmful/ I still take lots of stuff, especially glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate for arthritis, because I can't get that in my food, and as Rob said, food is no longer nutritionally dense, so we have to make up the deficit some way. I guess we just do what we feel is best for ourselves, and hope that it is the best.

| Here's another opinion on supplementation, just read it this morning. (I really like this blog, BTW) http://www.drbriffa.com/blog/ Some good food for thought.
