In a six week study of a high protein diet in type 2 diabetics it was found that, compared to the control group (regular ADA diet) the high protein group had much better post prandial and overall blood sugar levels, no impariment in kidney function and improvement in lipid levels.

Maggie:
I was not able to access this article. However, I would like to use this forum to voice my disgust at certain health organizations (that shall remain unnamed)who have so much control over decisions as to what their particular health sufferers eat, would deny research into diet options, especially the low carb way of eating so readily. Perhaps they are afraid that if low-carb is discovered to cure or substantially control their particular health concern, they would be out of a job, and, heaven forbid, no longer able to collect those millions of dollars in donations they receive yearly. (if I have to watch another plunger-healthy commercial, I'll throw up). But it also saddens me to think that hundreds of thousands of people are dying yearly because of the obstancy of these organizations. "We are searching for a cure but it better not be diet-related (and we are ensuring that it isn't)."

Sorry lost my head there for a second. Thanks for listening.

Kateryna,

If you want to register on medscape (which will make the article available to you) here's the link to medscape's main page. Here you'll find a place to "log in" or "register." It's free.
