I haven't read any news about this new low carb ice cream from Bryers, so I thought I would give a review. My appologies if this has already been done.
First, the boring parts: Carb Smart is sold in a half gallon container(yeah) in vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry and sweetened with Splenda. Here is the breakdown for a half cup serving as stated on the carton:
Total Carbs - 10g
Fiber - 3g
Sugars - 4g
Sugar Alcohol - 3g
Please note that even though it is sweetened with Splenda, it also contains sorbitol. I know some of you may have trouble digesting sorbitol, so be advised.
Now for the good part, the taste! I tried the chocolate and the first thing I noticed was the creamy tecture. The 1/2 gal container felt slightly lighter than the regular Bryers, but I didn't actually weigh it. In case you didn't know, ice cream is sold by volume, not weight. The chocolate flavor although a bit lighter than the regular Bryers chocolate was great! This taste like REAL ice cream(and it is). I have tried the pint size ice cream made by Blue Bunny and this is better. I can't wait to try the vanilla on top on my Atkins Brownie(only recomended for those on lifetime maintenance). Life is good!

Note: I do not work for, nor affiliated with Bryers in any way. I am just a low carber who is excited that major corporations are finally noticing us.

I tried the Breyers Strawberry flavor. It was pretty good. I hope they eventually come up with a Butter Pecan, or something more exciting. But I agree, its great that Breyers has put this product out.

I also checked ingredients and as a diabetic rejected it, one of the ingredients is corn syrup, and a lot of people seem to be up in arms about the HFCS, it is supposed to be a really bad thing and tons of lcers I know have written bryers to complain, I still need to research this and see what it is exactly!

Here's an excerpt from Dr. Andrew Weil's reply to a question about HFCS.

Yes, there is a difference between fructose and High Fructose Corn Syrup. Fructose is fruit sugar, a simple sugar that makes up one-half of the moleclue of sucrose or table sugar. (The other half is glucose, usually called grape or blood sugar.) Fructose tastes sweeter than sucrose but has fewer calories because the body does not metabolize it well. This has led some people to recommend crystalline fructose as a low-calorie alternative to regular sugar. I do not agree with that recommendation.

The body doesn't handle large amounts of fructose well. You can maintain life with intravenous glucose, but not with intravenous fructose; severe derangement of liver function results. There's also evidence that a high intake of fructose elevates levels of circulating fats, (serum triglycerides), increasing the risk of heart disease. I never use fructose in my home.

High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is a recent invention of the food industry, made by an enzyme-mediated process. Old-fashioned corn syrup is less sweet and contains mostly glucose...

HFCS contains 14 percent fructose. Never before in history have so many people been consuming so much fructose, and I am concerned about its possible disruptive effects on metabolism. I'd advise you not to buy products made with HFCS...

I was at Market Basket (a local grocery store) yesterday and I saw Klondike had Smart Carb ice cream bars. I was short on cash (and time), so I did not buy them (and I didn't look at ingredients so I am not sure as to whether or not it contains HFCS), but if that store had them, they have to be readily available. I just thought I'd let you know about that option, if anyone decides to or has tried them, please post how they were/are

If Klondike has carb smart anything that's *actually* carb smart, I'm IN! I used to love Klondike Toffee Bars.

That’s crazy. I can’t believe (well, yes I can) that they are trying to market something to the low carb community and then putting HFCS in it. They don’t get it.

Frankly, before I’d eat that, I’d eat HD and just call it a treat. At least they use relatively pure ingredients.

If it's 4 carbs or less, I'll grab it. If it's about the same as every other no sugar added ice cream, I'll take my LeCarb, smash it into a square, melt and cool a LC chocolate bar, pour it over the top, and refreeze it for a few mins..

More effort, less carbs, same effect.
