quote:
The latest such warning comes from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), an American nutrition advocacy group, which says the Atkins diet may cause heart disease and could have killed a teenage dieter who was on it.

Being a vegetarian doesn't necessarily mean eating vegetables. My FIL eats lots of mashed potatoes, maccaroni and cheese, huge amounts of cerial with soy milk and white bread. He looks about 10 years older then he really is and has a huge pot belly. All because he thinks it's wrong to kill and eat animals.
Well like my mom always says. I may not believe in what you are doing, but I believe in your right to do it.

I find I have never eaten healthier on LC. I pass up the paste and glue, I mean the potatoes and white bread with ease now.

Thinjen,
I was a vegetarian for seven years, and I have a healthy respect for anyone who does not eat animal products for ethical reasons.
However, eating a vegetarian diet requires a careful balance of amino acids, found in grains, rice, legumes, and (unless you're a vegan) dairy, to make up complete proteins. Eating mashed potatoes and white bread instead of meat is unhealthy and wrongheaded. No wonder your FIL looks terrible.

As for the article, I've said it before: if anyone has a legitimate arguement against low carb, I will listen to them and consider their position. If you have to resort to half-truths, innuendo and out-right lies, then maybe your arguement isn't so valid.

Cooking is at once child's play and adult joy.
And cooking done with care is an act of love.
