Well, Medscape has listed the top ten articles for the year 2003 in their Diabetes and Endocrinology section. These articles are the ones which were most read by the members of that section.

Top Ten: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/466168

Note that the TOP 5 are about low carb eating, and 4 out of that 5 have content which is favorable to low carb eating principles.

FYI, I reviewed the study (on the old board) which was the basis for the one unfavorable article. The bottom line is that it was not a clinical study. It was a review of the literature on the issue of low carb diets and the method of choosing which studies to review was fatally flawed.

Anyway, it blows my mind that practicing endocrinologists are FINALLY paying attention to the dietary issues associated with diabetes. This may explain why I've noticed more and more members of LCE are finding their doctors more favorably inclined toward our way of eating.

Happy New Year!

One of the studies mentions that the only difference between lowcarb and lowfat lipid profiles is that Beta-hydroxybutyrate increased with the lowcarb diet. Does anyone know what that is? I have never heard of it before.

Beta-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase is an enzyme, found in all mammals, which functions as a catalyst in the process of converting ketone bodies to useable fuel.
