LIKE those last 5 pounds, low-carb diets won't go away - USA Today

http://www.usatoday.com/life/columni...end-mill_x.htm

AND MY RESPONSE

Ms Maxwell:

The reason low carb diets won't go away is because they work.

I've lost over 100 lbs so far on mine, and I've run a website
(www.lowcarbeating.com) since 1999 where I've talked to hundreds (well,
probably thousands) of people who are having success with them as well.

Is the low carb "bubble" going to burst???

Almost certainly. All the people and companies (many of them churning out
what amounts to low carb junk food) jumping on the bandwagon because it's
"trendy" will certainly move on to something else soon. That's the nature of
the beast.

But every study done so far shows that low carb diets do take weight off,
and end up reducing triglycerides and blood pressure as well. No study
participants have died of metabolic imbalances, have had their kidneys stop
working, or have lost so much muscle mass that they couldn't hold themselves
upright.

And I defy any of the 90 lb nutritionists I see on tv trashing low carb to
tell me that the 100 lbs I lost is water weight!

Is low carb right for everyone???

Absolutely not. I've talked to many folks who either didn't lose well, or
just didn't feel well doing low carb.

But does that mean "I" should stop doing what got me this far?

I think NOT!

Does that mean I'll move on to the "next diet" when it comes along.

You can bet not. And neither will the many people who've had success.

Yes, Low Carb is here to stay, but it will soon fade from it's status as a
"hot trend".
Thank God.

Popular trends don't fit me.

I wrote to her too, althought I wasn't as professional as Andrea:

"You wrote:

'I said I hoped the Atkins Diet would go the way of other fad diets and disappear. Unfortunately that hasn't happened.'

Miss, what do you care? You don't seem to have an overweight problem destroying your health so what's it to ya? I really hate it when people with no life's experience such as yourself go around wishing that things that are none of their d*** business would go away. Only in America will a woman sit down and write about her useless opinion rather than doing actual investigative work about low-carbing. Great example to the world, I'm sure."

The incredible thing is that she replied to me.... saying thanks for the input but not to assume she had no life experience! LOL. I'm assuming she learned something from this. I hope her reporting improves!

Write Girl,

I have to tell you that if I had gotten your email, I would have been very offended.

I tried very hard to form a reply that - while strong - was NOT a personal attack ; I've found that such a tact never gets one anywhere.

You have a right to express your opinions in your own way, but I want to make it very clear that I don't condone or encourage the type of letter that you posted. I don't think that will get us anywhere, but labeled as fanatics.
