I'm not convinced there's any diet advantage to the "good fats" that he talks about in South Beach. Actually, I'm not sure I believe anybody knows which fats are good and which aren't. The science on this keeps changing. Margarine is good. Margarine is bad. I have a feeling there will be a whole new list of "good fats" ten years from now.

Hi April, and thanks for the article. While I understand what motivates people to go South Beach... I think for me, fundamentally, I want to eat only foods that have NOT been tampered with in ANY way. I try to eat ONLY vegetables, proteins, and dairy products that are whole. I don't use any of the Atkins bake mixes or other low-carb products because they have been altered. They are not in their whole state.

Low fat cheeses, milk, etc. has been futzed around with - they have removed something that nature intended to have in there.

Guess that's my mantra, "WHOLE FOODS ONLY". But then again, I've been an Atkins girl from the beginning... perhaps I'm just justifying..?

Hugs,
Rachel

Don't you just love that line of "scientific information". Just yesterday a report on the news stated "Coffee, may help reduce the change of type 2 diabetes". Isn't it odd how the experts opinions waffle to extremes. I think that a axiom stated over 2,000 years ago by, St. Paul to the Romans (or Ephesians); "Do all things in moderation!" is still really the best advice I've read in my short (46 year) life.

FTW

Information gladly given, but safety requires no unnecessary conversation.

Ah, yes, but what if you have too much moderation?

Ahhhh, Doc!! There's a missing axiom there.... "All things in moderation.... especially moderation."
