I saw a blurb on the local news last night about Hardee's bun-less burger. They of course had to have their Nutrtitional Expert on afterward and say how dangerous this is because of the size of the burger and the amount of fat. And they pointed out how difficult it is to eat a bunless burger in the car. I eat at a local burger joint once in awhile and when I have a burger (loaded with cheese and bacon) I always discard the bun. I am not, however, eating it in the car. I get a salad to go along with it and sit down with knife and fork firmly in hand and eat in a civilized manner. It doesn't matter whether it's wrapped in lettuce or not, doing a low-carb burger can no longer be considered "fast." I "love" the news media's comments after they do a bit about low-carbing. How they love to sensationalize. It no longer gets my dander up, I just usually laugh. Then I think, how can I counteract all this misinformation? I know, I'll start a low-carb support group right here in my little old home-town. The ideas are in the works, rolling around in my head. Hopefully I will have news soon of this group getting up and running. I'm excited. Sometimes this stuff needs a grass-roots approach.

IN-n-Out has offered a bunless burger for several years. You just ask for it 'protein style' and you get all the goodness wrapped in nice crisp lettuce. As Barb mentions, not easy to eat in the car, for sure, but I've been known to eat one at my desk (with LOTS of napkins handy!!!)

I saw a sign at our McDonalds night before last that said "Bun-less quarter pounders" for $1.69

The only one I've tried so far is the In-N-Out Protein Style. Sooooo good. Not for eating in the car, as said above, but so good.

Any other time I've wanted a bunless burger from a fast food joint, I just chuck the bun (birds and such love 'em). Glad to know I will be able to simply ORDER them bunless everywhere soon. Yay!

This is the Low Carb Thickburger that I posted about a few weeks ago in the Everything Else forum.

I tried this burger the other day. Hardee's char grills their meat, so it was pretty tasty. It comes between lettuce leaves and in a paper wrapper.
A couple of amusing tidbits...

1. It comes with ketchup, so I had them hold it.
2. The gal asked if I would like a combo, I asked what's the combo...FRIES! haha

I don't get it, and they certainly DON'T.

Take care~

My wife and I tried it yesterday. VERY TASTY!
It only got messy towards the very end. We did notice the ketchup and went.."humm???".

I still have an issue with Hardees saying its only got three "net" carbs since it had tomato and onions on it (not including the ketchup..).

Next time I will have them hold the ketchup.

When DH and I had one the other day, the lady asked us if we wanted to make it a combo. I asked her what that included and she said a side salad and diet drink.
Not to bad but the diet drinks had aspertame in it.
One small step as they say....

"Would you like some Chocolate Chip Cookies to go with that Low Carb Burger sir?"

That's the question I was asked the last time I ordered a LC Burger at Hardees. At first I just stood there with that "I don't believe you just said that" look on my face...wanting to jump on the LC Soapbox...then I regained my composure and just laughed. I realized that most of the time these are "canned" or "conditioned" responses by these folks who work there.

Well, I do like their LC Burgers...and no I don't eat 'em in my truck, nor did I eat burgers with buns in my truck before. I don't even try ordering meals "without the bread" anymore; I just toss it aside when it comes. At first, I thought I'd really get in trouble for doin' that...then I realized "my mama ain't even here," so I got really bold and started ordering 'em just like everybody else and don't make no scene about the whole thing.

Sometimes I think this whole thing like the "can't eat 'em in your car" thing is blown totally out of proportion by these retailers. Next thing you know, you'll order an LC item and some little clerk will say...

"just sign this Low Carb Disclaimer right on the dotted line sir and we'll bring that Bunless Marvel right out to ya!!"

To All A Happy LC New Year!

Watched a lot of football this weekend and thus saw a lot of commercials, 2 got my attention. Subway has rolled out two Atkins wraps (something like 9 net carbs.) Really funny since weren't they the low fat Jared company? The other was a beer commercial saying their beer only had 1.3 carbs more than a competitors beer and you can work that off easy.
I think corporate america is starting to notice. I know my regular grocery store has gone from 0 low carb geared stuff last July to a small display at the end of an aisle and now they have about 10 feet of multiple shelves full of various low carb products along with a freezer with breads, ice cream and other stuff.

Hey, if they're low-fat and low-carb, WHAT'S LEFT????

I don't want to walk out of there feeling hungry. Not for the prices they charge. Sheesh.
