It is a very odd study, Kimberly. The more technical report can be found here: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/467707
The editors at Medscape seemed to feel that there were some bias problems in this study.
As a medical person, what struck me about this study was that they deliberately chose subjects with impaired glucose tolerance, but then never reported anything about the effects of the various regimens on the blood glucose situations of the participants.Very weird study.

It's interesting. Let's be generous and give the devil his due on this one. I don't see why low-carbing has to be the only effective way to lose weight. If this works for some people, then that's fine. I tried the whole wheat/brown rice thing (REALLY tried it) and it didn't work for me.
I agree that the choice of subjects may have skewed the results. The lower glycemic index of the foods may have helped these pre-diabetic patients with their carb metabolism. That doesn't sound unreasonable. They should have published some post-study glucose levels.

I thought the same thing that you thought, Maggie. I thought that it was a weird study as well. But if that worked for them, then sobeit. But from my personal experience, I tried alot of ways to lose weight, and LCE was the on thing that worked for me. I feel alot healthier than I have in years.

If it wasn't for the spagetti (whole wheat). It looks like Zone. They had a high fiber cereal and if it had no sugar added could be some what low carb. Remember they had lots of veggies and no sugar.
They show the calories but not the carbs. It isn't Atkins but could fit several other LC diets as long as it had enough protein and LC fruits. So if they did not worry about calories what did the researchers decide was the correct intake of what? low Sugar? Increase fiber?
The control group had fewer veggies. That by it self is an interesting comment.

Well I think I'll stick with my LC life style. Those so called studies were probably sponsored by bread, pasta, and potato companies! Besides.. LC isn't all about weight loss. It has many medical benifits. I didn't see that study bringing any attention to anything other than "weight loss".
