I am posting this news release FYI...but, I gotta tell ya, the idea of low carb instant mashed potatoes and Hamburger Helper scares the bejeepers out of me. It has nothing to do with food snobbery; I just don't get the need for this.
Soy milk, great; lc soups, ok; but Hamburger Helper!?!

Anyway, here:

Years ago we ate the Hamburger Helper foods, they were quick and easy, and not so bad in taste. Then we realized how much salt they had in them, and since dh had a heart problem and we didn't use much salt we stopped eating them. I learned how to make something simliar - a stove top skillett dinner using hamburger meat, some kind of pasta, and some veggies. Now I make the same thing except with out the pasta, just meat and veggies. Sometimes I use chicken breasts, ground turkey, but it is tasty, filled with veggies and I know what's in it.
I guess there are some people out there that will use those, but not me

The hamburger helper sounds kind of iffy. But I'm thrilled that major food producers are jumping on the low carb wagon. They are getting our message. We want more LC options. It's a beautiful thing.

I agree, Gregg, that having more options is a good thing, IF those options are healthy ones. But, I just know that there are people who are going to live on low carb instant dinners, candy, Pop-Tarts (those are coming out soon), and the lc version of SnackWell cookies, called CarbWells. You gotta believe that they are full of trans fats, sugar alcohols, white flour, additives and junk. With more choices comes more temptation, and for people with food issues, sometimes too many choices can be too much to handle.

Maybe I'm just a skeptic, but I don't believe these food manufacturers are interested in our health; they're just in it for the bucks.

Sometimes I think it was easier back in the old days, when if you wanted something low carb, you had to make it. Then, at least, you knew what you were REALLY eating.

Low carb Pop-Tarts? *Is* there anything left once you remove the flour, corn syrup, and sugar?

Oh, yeah... trans-fats! wheeeeee!

When tehy first brought out hamburger helper I could be seen to shout in the supermarket "HAMBURGER DOESN"T NEED HELP!!!!" A lot of the stuff seems to be aimed at a person who isn't doing a low carb diet just wanting to get net daily carbs down to 200 or 300 instead of 500. These things might be good for maintenance phase for me but not until then. And not most of that list. I once bought a box of instant mashed potatoes and made one serving and it sat on the shelf for 2 years before i trashed it.

Then they want to charge you an arm and a leg for this stuff. I saw LC chocolate syrup but for 4.00 a bottle I can do with out.

Sorry Rob, I just got this hilarious mental image of you (with your kid-picture-avatar face, only 6ft tall now), yelling madly in the middle of the store

Good point Trina, you're right of course that many unsuspecting folks will eat all the new LC crap coming out and when they don't lose much weight they will be bitter and disillusioned. Of course WE all know better. And will carefully sample a few of these products and use them appropriately, Won't we?
