If you go to C-Span and click on the link, under "Latest Video >>>", that says "HHS Dept. & FDA on Strategy to Counter Obesity" you'll pull up a recent news conference where the various agencies discuss their plans to require more disclosure in labeling of food products, from the supermarket and in dining out.

IMHO, they're still hung up on calories, but they're calling for clear standards on carb content, among other things.

Too bad the industry couldn't agree amongst themselves before big brother felt he had to step in and "save us" again. I guess there'll never be another "UL" in our lifetime. Government won't hang back long enough to allow such an industry watchdog to emerge again.

It's a shame. In my experience, the UL label on electrical equipment is MUCH more dependable than the government imposed nutrition label on food. By the time the lobbyists get done with it, there will be as many new "fudge factors" as there are new bits of information. JMHO.

WOW They've actually been listening to some of what we've said. But the calories in/calories out argument is still firmly in place. Increasing Font size for calories-cheez. But I like the idea of calories in an entire package being listed if it's reasonable that you could eat the entire package (think potato chips) and looking into whether servings sizes are realistic. I also love the idea of "urging" restaurants to provide prominent nutritional information. Lots of good stuff here even if this wasn't aimed at us.
