Wink Modest Success: Better Sweetener Choices

Today, I'm celebrating a small success: I've successfully transitioned from using powered Splenda in my coffee in favor of Fiberfit and Sweetzfree.

I usually bought the bulk Splenda becaue it's cheaper. And I drink coffee a good part of the day, always dumping something in there to flavor it up. It's part of my routine. Now, this isn't a big thing, but over the course of a day, I probably added close to 10 carbs to my total that way. (I drink quite a bit of coffee.)

Today, I realized I haven't touched the big bag of Splenda in days, have totally adjusted to using the other sweetners in my coffee (and other stuff I make as well), and get a lot more fiber in this way.

So I made a small habit change, I still enjoy my coffee, and painlessly cut down on my daily carb intake in the process.
That's my "little success" for the day.

Great news, Dix that's a big step! Sweetzfree is a great product and I have it in my cabinet, very convenient. Is Fiberfit a stevia product?

I've been working on giving up sweetener as often as possible. It just seems to help control my sweet cravings. I've always drank black coffee, but preferred sweet tea. I'm happy to say that I've learned to drink my iced tea unsweetened.

Dixie, I did that a couple of years ago, still have a few cups of the bulk Splenda in a canister that I haven't touched in all that time. Perhaps I'll use it to make some pnb cookies for the grandkids.

My small success is not eating any low carb sweets for the past 3 days - well, it will be 3 days once I'm through today. I'm going to try to retrain my taste buds. I still use FiberFit in my tea, but I use a lot less. I'm trying to not be so dependent on that sweet taste. And with the warmer weather, we'll be drinking a lot more iced tea, which I usually sweeten, so I'll have to be more aware of my determination to cut back.

from http://www.fiberfit.net/ , emphasis theirs:

Additionally, Fiberfit is sugar-free. It is sweetened with sucralose, a non-caloric, non-chemical, FDA-approved agent derived from real sugar. Each teaspoon of Fiberfit has the sweetness of approximately 8 teaspoons of sugar with no unpleasant aftertaste.
i get it from netrition. (Fiberfit)

congratulations, nita! after a break, i'll bet even a tiny bit of sweetening will taste much sweeter, too.

I think this is wonderful Goddess. This is certainly something to celebrate, great transition. Way to go! I was just getting online tonight to look up fiberfit as I saw it in one of Nita's recipe's. I'm adding it to my next Netrition.com order.
I too enjoy my coffee and drink it much of the day. I don't add any sweetener but my weakness is the half and half. It really adds up throughout the day but I'm not sure I can cut it out or replace it.
Great job! Woo Hoo!

Thanks, Linda!

I have a tendency to overdo Half and Half sometimes, too. I will occassionally mix it up with Calorie Countdown milk instead, or a smaller portion of either 1/2 & 1/2 or heavy cream. But I go through periods where I am more likely to get carried away...I guess that's next to work on.

I'm about at the same stage of "evolution" as Susie. I like my coffee with NO sweetener ... just a big glob of heavy cream. Iced tea, I only want a wedge of lemon (or brewed up with a couple of peach herbal tea bags added). ... but, for black hot tea ... still want it sweet with a wedge of lemon. Green tea, I like just plain.

One of the interesting observations I made was, when i first switched to this way of eating, I realized just HOW MUCH sugar I used to put in my tea. I found that no matter how much AS I put in, it still didn't have the right "mouth feel" (sludge, that is. ) .... I'm over it, but it was a revelation.

i hear ya...my kids used to ask me if i'd like some coffee with my sugar. i think i filled the cup up about a third of the way or something ridiculous like that. sludge is right!

i have no idea how i functioned when i ate like that.
