| ...and I am very sad. She was my idol and inspiration, and a very great lady. I had the great good fortune, years ago, of meeting her when she visited the Culinary Institute, and she was very gracious and kind to an awe-struck, fledgling student chef. She was unpretentious, genuine, wildly talented; a role model for all professional chefs, women and men. I never really knew her, but I feel as if I did, having watched her on TV for almost 40 years. I will miss her terribly.

| I'm really sorry to hear that, Trina. She was so much fun to watch and I enjoyed the shows that she did with Jacques Pepin. My favorite thing about her was her calling the anti-butter people "stupid." She was right on the money about that! That she lived to be 91 is a testiment to good eating. Here's link about her passing: http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/0...ild/index.html

| She was my hero! I idolized her as a young, aspiring cook and learned so much about cooking from her. Her two volume Mastering the Art of French Cooking (with Bertholle & Beck) are still my most common references. What a wonderful woman. I may just drop a chicken on the floor in her memory.

| LOL, Maggie! Did you see the quote where she said her favorite meal was "red meat and gin"? She really inspired me to stop being almost afraid of cooking when I was a new bride (about a million years ago) and just plunge in, and it turned out to be one of the hobbies I like best. Aderyn |

No, but I love her even better for that! Martini, steak and a green salad is one of my own favorite meals.

| I remember hearing a story about her that I just loved; she was a guest at a big whoop-de-do dinner the Culinary had to introduce a new wine. Everyone was singing its praises and generally kissing up to the wine people; they got to her, and she said that to her it tasted like cat pee. Ya gotta love a woman like that.

| In many ways she reminded me of the Queen Mother (another great lady no longer with us). No nonesense, straight forward and always from the heart (and in the QM's case a flask of whiskey in her bonnet!) Trina, how wonderful that you got to meet her!!!

| This saddens me. I remember watching her show on our one Tv with my mother. My mom was a little surprised that I would remind her it was on if she forgot. My admiration for her runs deep and I'll miss her greatly. She was only 2 days shy of 92. |

| I used to love watching her shows. And then, there was the infamous comedy skit (SNL? Kids in the Hall?) - I saw an interview with her about that skit several years ago. She LOVED it - a true lady.

| I got all teary-eyed when I read of her death. Top-quality cooking with none of the pretentiousness. She started my love of cooking when I was just a kid, as I'm sure she has done for many. I admired her as a wonderfully outspoken woman and a great teacher (all the great teachers inspire our love of whatever they teach - they can make anything absolutely fascinating). Trina, you are so lucky to have met her. I feel so sad that one of the great people of our times has gone.

| I, too, was greatly saddened on Friday when I learned of her death. The Food Network, which would probably not be around today if it weren't for Julia Child, will be remembering her this coming Sunday. Sounds like it is worth tuning in for. Trina, I am so envious that you actually got to meet the Great Lady. How wonderfully exciting and inspirational it must have been for you!

| Did anyone else catch the between show tribute on the food channel?? Each one of the chefs took a moment to say how much she had influenced them, it was REALLY sweet!
