Default appliance problems :(

well being myday 2 of days off today was laundry day.. so tommrow being my son's first day back to school i was trying to wash his book bag and some of my work aprons and tossed in two towls to hold down the book bag and aprons.. well something went realy wrong and it all kinda tangled around my agitator bar thing in the middle of my washer.. i was cleaning in my laundry room when my washer became posesed by a deamond... and it bounced 2 times and i ran for the washer to shut it off.. it was to late i heard a bang and it shut off just as i was hitting the shut off on it.. so i open the door to inspect the damadges.. nothing Visable asides from the little button that gets pushed down for saft so the washer knows the lid was down .. some how disapeard..then i went to grab out some clothes ... and the top part of the agitator was loose..

SOOOO on the phone w/ my appliance repair person.. he is booked pretty much full today and tommrow.. so.... im on edge on what to do.. so i try and take a look... BIG MISTAKE! I possibly did moer damadge than was done to begin w/...

just had to vent.. out of frustration..

hopefully MR handy man can figure out what went wrong and get it fixed ASAP.. i do laundry tuesdays and saturdays.. sigh... my clothes are gona get outa hand...

Ugh! Washer broken is the WORST! I hate dragging all that stuff to the laundromat. Dishwasher broken is a close second, but I really, really hate it when the washer goes. Good luck! Hope they can get it working again ASAP.

I feel for you. I would just die if I had to haul the laundry out someplace to get it done. I hope it doesn't cost you too much.

Hang in there and don't try and fix anything else

Oh, gilley! So sorry to hear about your washer needing an exorcism!
I finally talked DH into enrolling in American Home Shield. It's a home warranty company. My only real concern with us IS my washer. We bought it new 10 years ago, and it's done a million loads of clothes. My dryer is the same age, but I can see the inside is wearing down. Or maybe that's just leftover black crayon from when DD left a piece in her pocket.......

Sorry about your washer Gilley. Perhaps it's just protesting because you haven't given it enough socks to eat?

Gilley,
My condolences on your washer. I know how frustrating it is. We have a 3 (three) year old dryer that just died for no reason. Estimate to replace the electronic board was over $340. So for an extra $50 we went and bought a new machine but it really ticked me off. When I complained to the Sears salesperson, she said they are not making them like they used to and the newer ones don't last. Not an acceptable explaination and I really hated to spend the money on something that is used 5 times per week. Only hubby and I and how much laundry can we have. Not much, so it is totally unacceptable to me that the dryer died an early death.
Good luck and I hope your appliance person can fix it.

Well this is the great thing about my washer.. i spent 52 dollars to fix it.. it is 12 yrs old.. and the repair man said, this washer will last you forever if you use it correctly. that was my problem.. he said my washer was not over loaded i just had a few to many things that tangeld around the agitator and .. snap.. anyway.. since we got this washer second hand.. and replaced the motor in it when we first got it... this washer has been a great welcome in our home.. and used HEAVLY.. i am always leary when it comes to buying "new" products.. they are not made well and they are not as good quality as what you can get in an older product.. you will find this in many things.. look at cars..
in newer cars you constantly are replaceing items in the car.. and most you cant do on your own.. they have to be take to a professional to have them done. My Dh usta work in a transmission shop.. and always had a headach when newer cars were brought in..
just shows that newer isnt better!

Yes, Shortie, That's the reason I've given up buying anything at sears. You're better off buying used at 1/3 the cost of a new appliance.

Don't get me started on Sears! :crying: 3 years ago, my BIG, BIG, BIG Xmas present was a new range. I went through THREE ranges in less than 2 months, each inoperable or with non-functional parts on delivery (Jenn-aire by Maytag, btw). I spent almost full time on the phone with Sears for those 2 months getting them to take responsibility for delivering and installing non-functional appliances. I thought I was going to end up pemanently red in the face! And, the range still doesn't cook right (my local gas company just tested the gas lines in the house and the technician told me the gas burners act as thought they don't get enough gas, even though the gas lines tested perfectly).

I've since spoken to numerous others who have similar tales of woe with Sears appliances. And Maytag customer care! (she spits). Don't get me started....

This is the number one reason why I will never give up my 1940's gas range. Yeah, it may not throw off gigantic wads of BTU's like today's gas ranges but it's a workhorse that was built to last.

Teelbee, if your burners aren't getting enough gas, they probaby need to be calibrated. When I first got my range (which came from California), I had to have it adjusted to work at our elevation. Something to do with the mix of gas and air going to the burners. But then again, it sounds like you've had alot of folks look at the thing, so who knows what it could be. Don't you get the feeling that "Customer Service" is getting to be an oxymoron these days?

"in newer cars you constantly are replaceing items in the car.. and most you cant do on your own.. they have to be take to a professional to have them done."

You are sooooo right. My car is 47 years old! (1957 VW) and when something goes wrong, dh just pops open the bonnet and tinkers with it a bit and off I go. Wouldn't want a new one.... okay, maybe sometimes AC would be nice (...can you say "AZ in the summertime"?!) Also, my house is almost 100 years old, and any furniture I by is old or older. Most new stuff is junk - at least in the price range I can afford!

Good news on the washer, glad it didn't need to be replaced!

LOL Staci! AZ in the summertime is exactly why I don't live in Arizona any more.

I agree with you about newer stuff. My house is over 100 years old, and when DH and I were house hunting I wouldn't look at anything built later than 1920. And vintage furniture just has something that new furniture doesn't.

I can't agree more about buying older items instead of new ones, but you know sometimes you get seduced into thinking "a new energy saving device is better for the enviornment". Well I am beginning to say phewy (sp) to that.
We used to have an 1975 refrigerator that was from Sears (from the good old days when they knew how to make appliances). It was a hand me down from my boss at the time who always bought new appliances every 3 years (more money than sense). We started to have a noise problem with it after a couple of years and called the Sears appliance repair guy. He said it could not be fixed and we would just have to live with the noise and when it eventually totally broke we would be unable to fix it and would have to get a new one. Well 25 years later it is still running in our son's garage and hasn't broken down yet. LOL!!

I had to LOL when I saw the pic of the Bug. My first car was a '72 SuperBeetle. Yellow w/grey primer. And an 8-track tape player installed in the glove compartment!

My Aunt had an (olive green) dryer she and my Uncle bought at Sears (Kenmore) back in the 70's. It quit drying about 1991 and she had to have a heating element put in it. It worked for 3 or 4 more years, then totally died. They estimated they had used it for right at 30 years.

From what I understand, they keys to keeping appliances working are to keep them clean and maintained, and don't let gilley load your washer! LOL!

The guy from ACE appliance repair has been out ~so~ many times to look at those burners. Actually, he and I are getting pretty close - we are considering inviting him and his family to Thanksgiving dinner.
