The show was actually taped 3 weeks ago. She had to sign a non-disclosure form that she wouldn't tell anyone until the show aired. She had written Oprah about her friend that had an old truck that was on it's last legs. She and her friend were invited on the show with the understanding that her friend would get a new car. There were 11 people selected to get a new car. At the end of the show, everyone was given a gift box with the instructions that one additional person would find the keys to a new car in their box. They all had keys in them.
On the day the show aired, she received a package from FedEx with all the paperwork to order the car from Pontiac. All she had to do was pick a color, sign and return the forms and her new car would be shipped to the local Pontiac dealer.
She said the hardest part was not telling anyone, even her husband. On the day the show aired, she took the day off and invited her Mom and several friends over to watch the show, telling them only that she was on it.

I just read about this in yesterday's paper. That's so exciting for your friend! I also think, yeah its always someone else - never me... lol hehehe Hope your friend enjoys her new car.

I thought that was the COOLEST thing to do! Of course Pontiac certainly gets their share of advertisement out of the deal, but man that was a LOT of cars to give away!

And congrats to your friend, it must have been HORRIBLE to keep that secret for that long! (Since my Mom calls me "Sieve face" you can imagine how I'd think that....)

kudos to the people who recived the cars. I have one thing that buggs me about this ordeal.. it was not Opra at all that gave the cars away it was pontiac.. for the advertizment... anyway... no big deal.. just thought i should point out that opra's show was just used for the give away beacuse they thought "woman love opra, they will love her car too!"
