Default Dry skin?

Hey Everyone!

I have a question for ya..... Because it is winter both DB and myself have very dry skin right now..it is cold out...brrrrr...We have the humidifier going 24-7, and moisturize like crazy with whatever, but we need something else I'm thinking!!!

Just curious....we'll be going to the States soon to do some shopping (NIagara Falls USA here we come!) and I was wondering what your favorite skin moisturizing cream is???

Can you suggest a great product for moisturizing?

Any secrets??

Thanks,
Krystyne

I actually find that a biotin supplement is the best way to combat dry skin.

I have great results with this product; I don't need to use cream/lotion at all when I take it regularly, and I was taking prescription lotion since my skin was cracking since it was so dry.

Not what you asked for
Doesn't work for everybody
Not a cream
Not medical advice

...but it's something that IMHO, I definitely recommend.

Hockeygirl - I've always had dry skin, and suffered through it fairly bad. I like Mary Kay's extra emollient cream (I think they call it night cream) - smells like something my grandmother would use when you open the lid, but that stuff WORKS! And just a dab'll do you. My mother in law swears by it as well.

I have to give props to Oil Of Olay's new QUENCH body lotion! It's a "one time" apply per 24 hours and it is the first and only lotion/moisturizer that has cured my dry elbows and heels! Even hubby has noticed how much softer and healthier my skin feels/looks since using it. I use it immediately out of the shower and it soaks right in with no greasy feeling and has a very neutral, subtle scent.

My favorite is Avon's Moisture Therapy lotion. It really does the job for me, smells very neutral, and the price is right (I wait until they have a half-off sale). No affiliation with Avon and don't use many of their products, actually, but I'm a long-time fan of this one. (By the way, I do not like the cream version of this; it seems greasy to me. And I don't like the hand cream version, either; also seems greasy. Just the lotion.)

I use almond oil special to shower bath. Its a brazilian product but I think there are some american or canadian equivalent. its really helps and I have to use a special moisture only to my face (Nivea).

I have to be a dry skin warrior, especially in winter.

I use an Alpha-Keri oil clone - less than half the price of the original. I use it in a bath once or twice per week and, in between, I use a squirt of it on a washcloth in the shower. I use oil of olay (no fragrance) on my face and keep some Eucarin Plus by the sink to use whenever I do dishes, which seems to be all the time.

The ONLY thing that has EVER worked for my very dry skin is from Tropical Traditions - it's coconut oils and other organic products in a jar called Baby Silk. After 2 weeks, my horribly cracked heels and my constantly peeling forehead were both things of the past!

I've nearly used up the first jar now and in addition to "curing" my dry skin, I also notice that my "horrible old age spots" on the backs of my hands are fading away! No claim that it can do that, but hey, SOMETHING is doing it and I've not changed anything else.

I have 2 more jars in the cupboard. I don't ever intend to run out of it!

You can get it online at tropicaltraditions.com.

Hot water and soaps can aggravate dry skin. So, try bathing in lukewarm water and use extremely gentle cleansers.

If it's really bad, instead of bathing with soap or gel, use a soapless skin cleanser like Cetaphil. It cleans very well. You probably would have to buy it at a pharmacy.

I have found that with my dry skin/excema I like the Aveeno Creamy Moisturizing Oil and the original formula of that brand the best.

THAT was the word I wanted and couldn't cough up earlier! ECZEMA! That's what I had on my forehead. I could treat it with Elocon cream (cortisone) a couple times a week - it would stay gone for a day or two, then right back.

But since I started using that Baby Silk - it is TOTALLY GONE! It's like a magic potion as far as I'm concerned.

Teel, I agree on the lukewarm water aggravating dry skin - but man nothing feels better than a nice HOT SHOWER! LOL!

That Baby Silk sounds great, but alas, I'm allergic to coconut. Some great ideas in this thread!

I know this is going to sound strange, but a company here in the States actually makes something in a black and white jar, and it's called "udder creaM". Yes the jar is decorated like a spotted cow, but the stuff really works. And yes this version of it is made for humans.

Well,

Thanks so very much for all the ideas!! I think I have found something that I'll stick with? Maybe?

SOunds weird, but I bought some GOLD BOND Body Lotion, extra strength with a bit of menthol...and WOWOWWWWEEEE does it ever do the trick. It doesn't smell medicinal like you'd expect from the Menthol...Very light scent...not greasy and GREAT on the dry hands and feet.

For the face, I'll either keep the COMPLEX15 for face, OR keep using the DOVE night cream at night.

THat gold bond stuff really works tho...even after washing my hands.

Nice!

Thanks,
Krystyne
