Whole foods market opened their largest store to date this month in the city that they started in some 25 years ago....(austin Texas)

It has 5 or 6 restaurants, 150 different kinds of fish, and no telling what else, two stories, large city block big.
Anyway, thought I would pass on this information, be on the lookout for a new one opening in Manhattan sometime in the next year or so..
I hardly go to Whole Foods my self, I use the local food coop (store front)
and we have another store called Sun Harvest that are both cheaper than WHole foods and have the same "natural" food mix. (bulk items, etc...naturals, organics, etc.) Guess I should check it out one of these days....

Sounds like a Texas-size operation.

I only buy a few things from Whole Foods or Wild Oats, but I'm glad to have them both in town.

Tell me about it - I bought reggiano there yesterday - $18 a pound. No reggiano is not gold it's parmesan. But there's only one other store in town that carries it and they aren't any cheaper. But for nuts and other bulk items they're the cheapest place to buy. Go figure.

That's usually where I get my whole wheat pastry flour. (I can use that with South Beach).

LOL, that's funny! do you guys have "corner bakery" restaurants? they used to be owned by lettuce entertain you ...
anyway, their food is REALLY overpriced and everyone in chicago calls it "corner robbery." ha!

as for whole foods ...
i always go to one in downtown chicago (right across the street from my gym). it's ALWAYS packed! i am obsessed w/ their salad bar!
anyhoo, last week i walked by and the parking lot was empty ... the sign on the store door said "license suspended." i read in the paper later that the health inspectors shut em down b/c they found RATS. how GROSS is that?!
now i'm not so sure about that salad bar ........ !

From what I recall rats in downtown Chicago were pretty common. Most restauraunts have a difficult time keeping them under control.
