| Looking for input. I'm probably going to get a new refrigerator tomorrow morning (Saturday) - big sale at Sears, and I have $500 gift certificate. I've been thinking about a bottom freezer - never had one before, but I am so tired of having my veggies and LC stuff on the bottom shelf of my current refrigerator (which is now freezing stuff on the top shelf, even though it isn't supposed to). I like the idea of being able to put away my stuff without all the bending. So, if any of you have bottom freezers, how do you like them? I think there was a discussion before, and most people liked it who had it, but just thought I'd check.

| Here's my take on them (with a lot of input from other fridge buyers/seekers): http://www.lowcarbeating.com/bb/showthread.php?t=10658 Still love it!

| I once had a bottom freezer on a fridge. For the most part, I liked it. The down side is that you open the door and then pull out a drawer, exposing everything in the drawer to the warmth of the room. Mine didn't have an ice-maker. Come to think of it, I don't think one could have been added because of the drawer design. When that old fridge went out and I had to look for a new one, my priority was not freezer location, but veggie drawer space. The drawers in my old fridge wouldn't fit a big head of iceberg lettuce. I picked my current fridge (with an upper freezer) because the veggie drawers are BIG.

| Yes. Veggie drawers were important to me, too, Melissa. The model I got has my veggie drawers at about waist hight, with 2 drawers, each being 13" side to side by 14" back to front, and 8 1/2 inches deep. They have polycarbonate fronts (so I can see what's in each one without opening the drawer) and each has a humidity control. From my research, I gather that the bottom freezer with the drawers, is most economical. Since heat rises and cold sinks, having a number of drawers in the freezer prevents the cold from "falling out" of the freezer every time you open it. Since I now have a real time readout of the temperature (in degrees) of both fridge and freezer, I can say that it seems to work. Also, this model has alarms to signal if either section is starting to loose it's cool. It doesn't go off during regular use, but sometimes it goes off when I have one of the doors open for an extended period, like when I'm loading it up.

| I don't personally own one - YET! - but my Dad has a Sub-Zero with a bottom freezer and it does indeed have an ice maker. He loves it! Next one I get will be that configuration too! Char

| Personnally, I wouldn't buy a can opener at Sears. Sears used to be great for large appliances, but I don't think that's true any longer. Sears service policy is a big mess, too. I know numerous other people who've had problems and hassles with Sears appliances, installation, and service. Maybe that just this region - I don't know how they might be outside the SF Bay Area.

| I've often thought I'd love a refrig with the freezer at the bottom, because the refrig is opened a lot more then the freezer section. Let me know your opinion if you get one, after you've used it for awhile. It would also help prevent me having to stoop over so often.

| well, we ordered it, should be here Tuesday. An Amana (we have good Sears service here in the Midwest). Got a black one (cool) - our dishwasher is black and it will even out the sides. Current one is beige and we have an old yellow stove (was here when we moved in 20+ years ago. Bottom freezer, no icemaker/drink dispenser, cause we didn't want one. Lots of clear drawers, good door shelf space (clear containers), and I like the freezer bottom- figure we put the popular stuff in the main drawer, keep meats and good stuff in the upper drawer, which we'll only pull out occasionally. Old one has drawer you can't see in and I have a tendency to lose stuff. I like it, or at least the idea of it. Hate coming home from shopping - all my veggies and LC stuff is at the bottom and my back is still quite painful. So putting away or cleaning out usually required hauling in a chair or sititng on the floor. Hubby is 6'3", so this should work for him too. I'm actually excited. next year will probably be the stove - it's a small one (27") and drop in - so when we do that we will probably be redoing some of the cabinetry to fit a new one. Yuck. But, as said before, I don't cook a whole lot - and it still works - so we'll use it until it dies.

| I am a little late on the response to your querry, but I just love my bottom freezer fridge and would buy another in a heartbeat.... If you drop something from the freezer, it isn't coming down on you food with lots of pressure.... you can see what is in your fridge... some time I have to get a chair to put infront of the freezer to make my list of what's in it, but that's ok.... you will love it. c

| I'm just getting so excited. I actually paid extra to get the big freezer drawer, instead of the door, type. So the whole freezer main compartment just pulls out and you can look down and see what is in there. or grab or whatever. Then there is an inner compartment (shelf) that you only pull out when you need to so it isn't always exposed to the outside. Oh, just soo looking forward to getting it organized. waiting to do shopping until after it is in so we don't have so much to move out/in/out/in.

| MaryKay, I feel so excited for you. I got a new fridge last year (just a basic landlord-supplied model) but it was so much fun reorganizing everything and exploring all the "new" spaces and options. The model you picked sounds GREAT! Aderyn |

| Well, it certainly is a nice looking model and I'm sure it will be stunning in basic black - always so chic! I like the way the door is partioned with the extra wide cubbies for big jugs.
