| Peg, Dan, another interesting mystery series is Lindsay Davis' one set in ancient Rome. The protagonist is Marcus Didius Falco, an imperial informer (but "good guy"). On the light side but fun reads. I like Nevada Barr, too, but sometimes have trouble staying in the book. Boy, does she get beat up a lot I'm working on Emotional Alchemy by Tara Bennett-Goleman. I've had the paperback around for a long time but am just now getting to it.

| Aderyn: Just picked up the entire Linda Fairstein series about the lawyer and the police. I'm reading them in order! How about that?? Carolyn: If you like Celtic mysteries, I highly recommend Diana Gabaldon's series. It is VERY detailed, but I liked it so much that I bought the entire series (I think it's 5 books) for my daughters for Christmas one year. (I don't think either one of them has read them! Ha!) I just finished listening to James Patterson's "Honeymoon." Wow! What a thriller. I recommend this puppy. But, don't pick it up until you can devote a day to it. You won't want to put it down. I kept making excuses to drive somewhere so I could listen! Right now I'm listening to Anne Lamott's "Plan B" What a hoot! I just love her writing. It's about her 50th b'day, menopause, and raising a teenage boy. Just exquisite. I downloaded Sue Monk Kidd's book "The Mermaid's Chair" today. I love her writing too. (She wrote "The Secret Life of Bees") Peace, Peg

| All these great recommendations! Can't wait til I get back to the library! I just finished a great paperback, called THE FOREVER YEAR, by Ronald Anthony. It was a great story, a true feel good romance, not at all in the bodice-ripper category. It is about a grown man, who was the baby of a large family, who never really developed the close relationship with his father that his siblings seem to have. When the dad is in his mid-80's, he is unable to live alone, and the youngest son surprises everyone by suggesting that the dad move in with him, rather than go to an assisted living facility. It is both about the relationship that they develop, and the true love that the dad tells his son about. The love story related by the father has a great impact on the son... great book! |

| Some good mystery writers that I like are: Mary Higgins Clark Joy Fielding Tess Gerritsen Robin Cook (medical mys.) Michael Palmer (medical mys.) Dee Henderson (Christian, love story-mysteries) James Patterson William Cutrer (medical mys.) There are others but these are the first ones that come to mind. Also like to read Danielle Steel but she's not a mystery writer. |

| Just finished something that was pretty different for me, at the recommendation of my DIL, "In the Presence of My Enemies" by Gracia Burnham. The true story of her and her husband's abduction by Muslim extremists while serving as Christian missionaries in the Philippines. They were held hostage for a year; she survived, he did not (not giving away anything here--it was in the news and is revealed immediately in the book). A very good read, and really makes you examine the idea and applications of faith. Aderyn |

| I've just finished reading "Evidence of Harm" by David Kirby. It's about autism and mercury in vaccines - and about the battle between parents of autistic kids and the FDA/CDC/pharmaceutical industry. Well done, and an interesting topic. Did you know that, at the same time the FDA was banning mercury based preservatives in over-the-counter topical preparations, they were allowing tiny babies to get mega-doses of it by injection with their vaccines? Duh! Can't make this s*** up!

| Maggie the world is a frightening place. I finished Mind Prey and started Secret Prey last night. I highly recommend mind Prey. Interesting ending a la Lucas Davenport. For any Sandford fans out there. |

| John Sandford's lastest is Broken Prey and is coming out next month. I already have my name on the hold list at the library for it. I agree with Rob, Sandford's Prey series is great!

| Thank you so much Esther! I reserved the a copy of Broken Prey a minute ago at my library's online website and even though it isn't even out yet I'm number 64 in the queue. If you hadn't told me about it and I'd seen it after it was on bookstore shelves I'd be somewhere around 400 whixch usually translates to about a 3 month wait. |

| I love the Prey Books too--read Naked Prey not long ago and really liked that one. Can't wait until the new one comes out. Just finished James Pattersons newest, "Honeymoon." It's twisty and an easy read, like most of his, but it is not an Alex Cross story. Also just read Grisham's "Last Juror", liked it better than some of his recent ones. We also picked up his new hardcover, can't remember the name, but haven't started it yet. One other author who I would recomend if you like suspense and twists, is HArlan Coben. His most recent it "No Second Chance"--not sure what the earlier ones are titled, but they are all really good! THis makes me want to head home and READ!

| You're welcome, Rob! I only remembered that Broken Prey was due to come out next month last week and when I went to put in my hold, I thought for sure I'd have a high number but surprisingly, I'm #13 on the list. Yee haw!

| Esther - That's a very good number. My ibrary usually gets about 8 copies of Sandford's books at the main library alone. So I shouldn't have to wait more than 6 weeks. I finished secret Prey and also Dean Koontz's Life expectancy. So that made 2 books down in 6 days. No wonder I haven't been around here as much. Life Expectancy was one of Koontz's humorous ones. In the style of Odd Thomas. If you have read that. Also began reading Fat is Not Your Fate but soon discovered it to be low fat propaganda. |

| I just finished a somewhat interesting book by a woman named Kelly Ames. She's apparently some sort of international private eye or something. The book is actually three stories, each of which could have stood some good editing (or maybe a ghost writer). Substantively they are interesting, and not boring, but a bit tedious, and with a bit too much .... well, they're just not well written. I think she fancies herself to be a writer, but she's a better at having adventures than chronicaling them. ![]() The book is "Dancing with the Witchdoctor" (subtitle: "One Woman's Stories of Mystery and Adventure in Africa")
